What is better, a knight or a bishop?
Ask Me Anything with GM Maurice Ashley

How do you reach a master level from 1700 USCF? How long does it usually take? And what training regiments should a 1700 USCF follow? And how much time from each phase of the game if endgames are his strength, middlegames are weaknesses, and the opening is in the middle?

How many classical games on average does it take to become a GM (in your opinion), and how many did it take for you?

I first encountered you in a viral clip where you played a chess hustler and called them out for cheating.
Was that the only time someone tried to cheat against you over the board?
Have there been any noticeable effects on your life of becoming more well known?

Hi Maurice I am a strong classical player whose strength is probably 2100 classical and my blitz strength is probably closet to 2000. However I have a significant gap in rapid, or more 10 mins to 50 mins time controls. I regularly get into time trouble in winning positions, or I don't take enough time to play properly and lose like that. I actually just lost over 100 points in last month, and then another 20 at the start of this one, putting me from 1800 to 1677. I am significantly stronger at longer time controls, such as 90 | 30 and 70 | 15, but also 3 | 2 and 5 | 1. Once again, I am talking about OVER THE BOARD. Not online. Thanks :)
What is the question??
Yeah, give us the secret sauce! We don't want to work for it.
