Do you believe it is probable that someone other than G.K. could fend off Deep Blue in 1997. Let us suppose Anand or Karpov faced the machine.

Who's your favorite opponent?

Who do you think is the GOAT?

Besides chess, what is your favorite sport or game? Do you have a favorite athlete (non-chess)?

What elo jump is the hardest for chess players ex) 1100 -> 1200 or 1900 -> 2000

2800 -> 2900, even Magnus has been struggling with that for over a decade. 😂

Gracias Maestro....

Why the chess game rule had so many “fraud” or loophole in it? Like the draw by repetitive move, and stalemate? All this loophole just make the game unplayable. It can be an easy fix, like if you can not make a move, you lose. So that no stalemate rule is needed. For the repetitive move, no more than three time allowed, you have to stop for one. Just like the “ko” rule in GO OR Weiqi.

I made up a puzzle that I thought was pretty good. I was curious what a grand master would rate it. I’m currently a 1400 for reference. I made this up a few months ago while I was still 1200 or so.

1. What's the most annoying opening to go up against

The one you don't know! happy.png

I think the answer is personal. I prefer open positions, so when folks kept things closed I was far more bored than in wilder positions like the Open Sicilians. It all depends on what you like and what you don't.

Like a rook one square and like a bishop one square.

Thank you Mr Ashley for making time for chess fans to interact with us and respond to our questions. That is very gracious and generous of you! Your career has been inspiring to follow as the first African American Grand Master ever in history. What are some of your next career goals as a chess player?

Thanks for all those kind words. I appreciate them. I am now in content creation mode, which means Chessable courses and books like my new ones Move by Move and The Life-Changing Magic of Chess. I plan to do more of those.

The Najdorf Sicilian with both colors. Super exciting stuff!
