Automate Pieces?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I've found a couple of times in Automate that I haven't been able to use the full 35 points. Mostly towards the end, when there's been a couple of points remaining, and then the only option I've been allowed is to place my King

Is it a rule of the game that once your opponent places their King, then you must as well?

I can't see anything in the rules that says that or that you are only allowed a certain amount of a given piece?

This game for example I had 1 point left to use, but the pawn was greyed out, and I could only select the King:

maybe there's a limit to how many pawns you can place

The maximum pawns seems to be 10? But it should be noted in the rules if there is a maximum to any pieces

Oatey, What I would say is to calculate what pieces COULD be placed down. Like if you have 9 points and u place a queen, you would have 2 left! But your pawns are all gone. So be careful when u place pieces!

Happyboy,

I'm not quite sure what you mean?

If I have 12 points and put a Queen down, there is then 5 points remaining? With the Queen costing 7...

And what do you mean all my pawns are gone? What is the limit of how many you can put down?

I miscalculated that, I was trying to give an example of what would really happen if u have points left over.

My point being is to place down carefully pieces.

Sorry, wdym by all 35 points?

SI-Experiment - you start Automate with 35 points to use - each piece costing you a certain amount of points.

Happyboy I still don't understand what you mean? Because you can place a Queen down and then for example if you had 3 points left over, you could place a bishop or knight, which both cost 3 points.

I just played another game and only placed pawns until I couldn't place any more - it seems 10 is the limit. This should be mentioned in the rules

9 - 7 is 2...you can't use them if you ran out of pawns

This topic has "gone off the rails"

How can you run out of pawns when the rules don't dictate how many you are allowed to use?!

Copied from the rules:

Welcome to Automate, where you and your opponent both set up your pieces and then watch as the computer (Stockfish depth=18) plays the best moves to the end!

How to play:
Each player has 35 "points" of pieces to place on the board. You may choose ANY combination of pieces that add up to no more than 35.

 Queen = 7
 Rook = 4
 Knight = 3
 Bishop = 3
 Pawn = 1
 King = not counted toward score
Pawns must be placed first. At least 6 pawns must be used. Pawns may be placed on 2nd or 3rd ranks. Pieces must be placed on 1st or 2nd ranks. No more than 2 pawns per file.

The King is placed last. The game starts when Black places their King. If you put your king on a square where he is in check, you lose.
------------------------------------------------

" You may choose ANY combination of pieces that add up to no more than 35."

So this is incorrect and needs changing if you can only use 10 pawns

It's also worth mentioning about the other pieces
