im only 1500ish FIDE and 12, portugal has super deflated ratings though, most say we could get 300 more elo just by moving slightly North or East

real life ratings vary from country to country so I think chess.com ratings are actually better in this case

I teach a few twelve year olds. Most of them are 900-1000.

If a 12 year old has been playing chess for a few years already, they should be at least 1400 rated (just my opinion). If they just learned the game then I can understand being 1200 or lower.
