I guess they never realized this scenario could occur:

Oh here’s another one that my parents will say. When they’re talking to other adults, they will brag and say “our son is really good at chess, like he doesn’t just play he studies the moves”. Meanwhile the average club play would kick my @$$ xD

rico language....

Your turn 🙃

After one tournament game where I beat a girl who was probably around 10 years old, her mom came up and asked me "who trained you how to beat my daughter?"

Her daughter was 1200 by the way.

(and keep in mind I was already 21 when I went to my first tournament... so this wasn't a kid vs kid game)

Reminds me of when I was in elementary school. Kid named Geon was 1200 rated in first grade. We all thought he was a god and we worshipped the ground he walked on. He lost a game and we’d be like “geon how did you LOSE!?!?” He would say, “guys I’m not that good” but none of us believed him.

Now I feel sorry that he had to deal with us

Same girl I mentioned earlier, later in the tournament the dad came up to me between rounds and said he was a pretty good player and could probably beat me (he wasn't entered in the tournament).

Yeah, I didn't know what to say. I was just like... ok?

I was analyzing between rounds... so if he wanted to analyze or play I would have, but he didn't so it was just kinda awkward.

Kowarenai

i could kind of relate except i am the dad trying to play or talk with people
