Insulting others, of course, is absolutely wrong.

Personally though I remain baffled how someone who has been insulted seems to be worried the most about the specific word used.

The actual word used in an insult (like in this case) rarely matters, it's just a vessel used to communicate the hate and anger felt by the person who does the insulting.

So I'm always surprised how important it seems to be to others that "bad language" has been used. Isn't the hate and disregard for another human being the despicable part of it ? Should we not criticize someone for trying to ruin another's day, for being intentionally unpleasant or worse ?

And on the other hand, is hating on someone less bad if no "bad language" is being used ? Is someone who carefully tailors his speech to hit on weak spots of his opponents self-esteem a better person then someone who just throws a random insult in anger ?

What difference does is make, for example, whether or not he uses an actual swear word ? To me at least it makes no difference at all. If someone hatefully attacks me on a personal level, it does not matter to me if he used "bad language".

What matters is his behaviour - this is what we should not tolerate. His language imho is his own concern.

And don't start telling me about our oh-so-sensitive children who will supposedly break upon hearing a "bad" word - the truth is that the average child on the average public school will probably hear every swear word imaginable several times a week. So far our kids don't seem to have broken from it.

Some will get this, most will not: "What did Doug do?"

He used ... sarcasm."
