Bad manners becoming more prevalent on chess.com?

Hi all,

Although majority of players don't use the chat window during live chess matches (or use it politely), it seems to me that lately, not one day has gone by without at least one of my opponents having used offensive language, usually after a lost game.

Anyone else share this view? Are rude persons becoming more common here?

To reduce this kind of behavior (I don't if this really works, with so many players around here), I'd suggest that if you face this kind of verbal attack (unprovoked, I might add), you could simply block these players. That way, you will never be paired against each other again. Personally, I never give these people another chance, they are invariably blocked.

After all, chess is supposed to be a gentlemen's (or -women's) game, so why play against rude people?

Another thing I have been wondering for a long time: why are so many people tolerating the rude and idiotic notes on their profile, usually sent by the same group of people that abuse the chat during live games? Nothing is easier than removing those messages, and at the same time blocking the sender.

Can only block 200 (I think).

Blocking doesn't prevent being paired together (I think).

I disable chat.  I'm here to play.

A lot of people are oblivious to their notes (or not tech savvy enough to alter them).

At least the people I have blocked have never again been paired against me,  so it seems to work. Didn't know block list had an upper limit though.

I understand chat disabling (don't do that myself, although I very rarely chat anything during games), but you wouldn't need to do it if there was no chat abuse? :)
