Balancing Time Controls for Improvement

Hello chess community!

I started picking up the game a year and a half ago and started around 700-900 and have worked my way up to the 1500ish range across bullet, blitz, rapid, and daily. I love taking on challenges and doing things right. As a band director and musician I know the process of "practice slow to play fast." I want to apply that to chess as well, so I have several books that have received good ratings and a chess set at my office table. I read every day and work through annotated games and puzzles. I want to get involved with clubs/tournaments, but with the pandemic that might not be possible for awhile. The big question I have is how do you balance your time controls for the best results? I am trying to play more rapid and daily chess as I have heard those allow for "slow practice." What speed is considered too fast for growth, 10 min, 5+5, 5, 3+2, 3, etc.? Should I completely abandon playing bullet and blitz for awhile to focus on my studies? I appreciate any insights others have!
