castling early is a  dangerous  business, especially if you are not familiar with the attacking patterns against a castled king. so if I was black, I wouldn't play that h6 move even against a lower rated player! anybody rated above 1300 has seen some good checkmates against a castled king that is exposed. you should never voluntarily expose your own king to attack! quite basic stuff.

You could have played Bxf6 and won a piece. A way that might help you calculate that is if a player makes the first capture and the last capture in a sequence, then that player did more captures (might sound obvious).

So after ...h6 white wins a piece with Bxf6 Bxf3 Bxe7 Bxd1 Bxd8 Raxd8 Rad1 white has an extra bishop.

I'd take the free piece and say thank you very much since I'd be worried I missed something in the h-file attack.

Just post the link to the game. Or click on the download button, copy the PGN and post a it as a diagram on the forums next time.

Thanks! However, interestingly though, stockfish 8 depth 19 recommended the hxg4 move that i played, due to the open h-file towards the black king.

As long as you know what you're choosing between during the game. Some advantages are easier to keep than others wink.png
