Yes its perfectly acceptable. This member for example belongs to about 200.
(I only belong to 3)
but be aware when you join a group they usually want you to participate in team matches so dont join too many unless you want loads of online games :)

Have you yourself, or have you heard of anyone else, who has ever had to deal with being expected suddenly, to be on both of the opposing teams? This is the kind of riff raff I was looking to avoid, as well as anyone who might question my team loyalty. Do you know of any good answers to these questions, or someone who can tell me?
I was wondering how this is normally perceived. I recently joined a chess group. I haven't really engaged in any organized activities with them. I can say that isn't necessarily my fault or the fault of anyone else in the group. I have asked the administrator of the group on two seperate occassions as to my obligations, etc. I have gotten no reply. I realize we are busy in life with our work. I can imagine that if you work and take chess very seriously, that you won't have much free time. Since then, another group has approached me about joining. I don't know what to do.
However, in the mean time, I thought why not just ask the rest of the community what it thinks. Is it acceptable to belong to more than one chess club? What happens if we are asked to play against each other and I am stuck in the middle?
I guess I could pull a Bobby Fischer and play myself...
Seriously, before I even ask both admins, what do you guys/gals think?
You do not have any obligations. If you join you may be encouraged to participate in matches, vote chess .... other.
You cannot play yourself in a match as you are not allowed to join a match in which you belong to both teams.

This was a joke...However, I was told it is a good practice to play one move a day, for the rest of your chess playing days, from each side of the board, until you see the most unbiased out come, you can create.
