No. Just for Chess.com.

My guess is Kaynight was drunk when he signed up. He meant to type 'knight', but instead of typing just the letter 'k', he spelled it.

In all seriousness though, Thai nicknames usually have little if any connection to the gender of the child.

Most Thais under 50 years old have what is called Chu Len. Loosley translated, this means 'Play Name', or nickname. They also have a Chu Jing, "True Name".

Nicknames are often chosen based on some seemingly odd reasons.

Sometimes it is because monks determined the child should have a specific first letter of their nickname. Other times it is because the parents have the same first letter of their nicknames, so they want the children to all have the same first letter.

For example, my brother-in-laws wife's nickname begins with 'M'. They have had 2 daughters, and both of their nicknames begin with 'M'.

There are other reasons for nicknames that can border on bizarre. I had a student once whose nick name was 'James Bond'. I currenlty have a student named 'Nokia'. I expect any day now to have a student named 'iPhone'.

I once had a class with 3 students named 'Bacon', 'Ham', and 'Donut'. Really, it's true.

I had another student named 'Jap'. One day a less than tactful teacher told him his name was a derrogatory name toward Japanese. The kid was so broken up, he went home and asked his parents to change his nickname.

Changing nicknames happens alot too.

I've seen people change their nicknames because they found one they liked better. Sometimes a parent will change their childs nickname after the other parent dies so their spirit cannot find the kid.

When my daugher was born, my wife chose her Chu Jing, and I chose the nickname. I chose Winnie after my grandmother. It worked out great because Thai people love Winnie The Pooh.Laughing
