A scoresheet. The electronic move recording devices are expensive and unreliable.

A search through the forum for monroi will tell you more.

PlyCounter is another one that has had problems.

Although they are expensive, I think they save time and are useful.

Anyone have other comments?

Does anyone in here have a electronic chess move recording device?

I have ChessNoter and have used it in two rated tournaments. It is an approved device in US rated tournaments but is NOT yet approved for FIDE tournaments.

I note that your country is Turkey so I think that FIDE approval is more important for you. On the bright side, it has been submitted to FIDE for approval.

In my opinion, an electronic move recording device is a luxury. You should learn how to take proper chess notation. But the one big plus for ChessNoter is that the time per move is recorded as part of the PGN file, useful for when you review your games to know which moves you spent the most time on.

Thanks! But I live in the United States for now

I am not sure on this, but buy electronic DGT boards. They auto-record the moves, as seen in the top chess tournaments. Exactly how expensive they are, I have no clue.

The cheapest ones (plastic) are over $ 500. And they do need a suitable DGT clock, software and monitoring machine as well.

Yes so not DGT chess boards.

Not likely to be either, it breaches FIDE's "no electronic devices" rule...

Seems that FIDE is reviewing ChessNoter now.

In any case... a pencil is 100% certified by every chess federation, and (usually) working very well!    tongue.png

Exactly.

Personally I can't understand buying a device when paper + pen is cheap and easy to use.

Do yourself and your mom a favor by sticking with a pen or pencil.
