So what do you think? Increment or no increment?
Biggest debate of all : 5mins vs 3|2 mins !?

Increment helps to win a won position and thats why i prefer 3/2 over 5. I don't like losing on time, when a good sport imo would have resigned. That goes both ways; i avoid winning on time in a clearly lost position. But in the end, who cares? It's all a matter of preference and noone can convincingly say that either one is 'better'.

The increment means if I have a 1 Pawn advantage I can work to win a long endgame and don't have to try to do something else.

What about in the past, before time increments were invented, people like Alekhine, Morphy, Capablanca, Tal etc. ... you are saying
Those who don't want increment are the ones that want to win without playing chess.
So you are saying they are all didn't know how to play chess?

But if you like to talk about the old masters , do you know that most of them(among them Fisher and Botvinnik) considered blitz harmful ?
Yet they all played it

And 5mins blitz OTB is not 7 mins online
Online is faster, as you don't press the clock, knock pieces over, etc.
5mins OTB would equal roughly I would say 4 mins online

Because online it's easier to forget about the time, whether OTB you constantly pressing the clock , which reminds you of the time pressure.

5|0 is more popular here on the site.

3/2 for me. It is more like 'proper' chess. In 5/0, you can continually win with games that ordinarily are hopelessly lost.
How many years did you had when you learned playing chess.
What is the subject in wich you had better grades
In wich you had the worst.
Marks of both
Grades in maths english p.e. and other languages.
Thank you

I am one of the 'old farts' and I tend to lose on time in 5 minute chess. The 71 year old brain seems to be slowing down as I dodder on.
I am going to try a 3/2 tournament tomorrow. Win or lose I try to remember it is just a game and the object is to have fun. Tactics is becoming annoying anyway. I do better on the lessons.
Some people say:
1. Slow thinking players are excused for being slow and fast thinking players are penalized. Most chess players are weak and that is why increment and delay clocks are used. Since most players are weak, these bad time controls help more players than they hurt.
AND other's
2. In general, the players who don't like increment are players who play good blitz and win many games on time, or players that are just "Old Farts" and cannot adapt too easily to the change.
