Blackberry Users Unite!!!

I started this group in order to get an idea as to how many Blackberry users are out there that want chess.com to create an app for us just like they did for the iPhone. I'm a Diamond member, and don't feel I should take a back seat to iPhone users. The mobile chess app is ok, but it pales in comparison!!! Help me wage this campaign and get chess.com to get Blackberry users connected!!!

Search for it under groups and join!!!

I agree with you. I would become a paying member if there was an app, a good one, for my BlackBerry Storm.  It should also have the ability to store and export games in pgn to a memo pad.

Wouldnt something for the blackberry be released for all mobiles?

because blackberry is the same to almost any other mobile phone.. (Except touch phones)

I suspect there are different protocals for different companies.  Apple may have a particular set of hoops for Chess.com to jump through, and Blackberry may have a different set.

BB uses a different, non-Windows,  operating system.  Programs such as Pocket Fritz are not compatible with it.

Hi, my name is Brian - and I'm a Blackberry addict.  (Hello, Brian)

I currently use the Chess.com mobile app, but would also really appreciate a custom app for my device.

 Hello Brian,

Join the group!  The more members (or non-members) we get, the better the chance we have to lobby the Chess.com powers that be!!!

Ask your fellow Blackberry/chess addicts to join!

Hallo.  I am also a crackberry addict.  (Hello Dave).  I recently started using the Chess.com app on my curve and it works great.  I'm wondering what features people are wanting to see that the app doesn't do already?  For something that fits on a little 2 inch screen (as opposed to the large I-phone screen) I really can't find much to complain about.  One or two improvements but nothing blackberry specific I can think of.

Hello Dave...

I would love to be able to have access to the conditional move feature while playing games, and perhaps have access to my Chess.com home page.

I have a Curve also, and agree that they've done a nice job with the small screen available.  But, if I could access my Chess.com messages (not just the game messages), access the Daily Puzzle, and perhaps check the Forums, I think the app would be VERY COOL.

The Chess.com app doesn't even work on my pearl!

On a slightly different topic, I'm working with a guy who is devveloping an app for BlackBerry that will allow for recording of games like Monroi, only simpler features, that can be certified by the USCF for tournament use.  Stay tuned.

Lastly, Droid is the new wave.  Blackberry's OS is now like an 85 year old man with arthritis.

The mobile phone app works on my blackberry, it lists my "online" turn-based games and I can move and see an chat messeges in the game.  I'd like to more fully access the site via the phone, like look at diagrams in vote chess games.  I can access the site with the Opera-Mini browser on the phone but the chess boards don't really set up correctly.

Isn't the palm-pre supposed to be better than the blackberry at this point?  If so, I hope it is still around when it is time for me to switch-- one or two more good drops of the blackberry should do it.

The Palm operating system is not where the market is going and will probably be history in the next year or so.  Android is the system to upgrade to.  Even Blackberry is feeling the heat, as well they should. Widow Mobile will run all of the chessbase pocket programs.  Look for chessbase to come out with android products as the market shifts.

I have a love/hate relationship with my Storm. It's a wonderful, useful little gadget that I'd like to slam against a wall. ...and then jump on several times. I loaded a chess game once, I don't remember which, but it wasn't strong enough and didn't play well with the touch screen so I removed it.

I want a Droid X Cool

I will get a Droid smart phone next summer when I'm due for a phone upgrade. Hopefully, by then there will be pocket chess programs for Droid from Chessbase and Chess OK.

Unfortunately we don't support blackberry anymore.

We have also now withdrawn the app from AppWorld

You'd need to  install our regular mobile app:

Sorry :(

The Chess.com mobile app works well on a broad range of mobile phones (provided they support Java and can connect to the Internet), but some models are problematic, and some users get errors using the normal link to download and install the app.

If you're having trouble, here are a few things to try:

1.  Try this alternative link from your phone's browser:

http://chess.com/mobile/bin/www.chess.com/Chess.com.jad

That alone solves the problem for many users.

However, if that doesn't work and you are still getting errors, you may have better luck installing the application via computer:

2. On your computer's browser, open this link:

http://chess.com/mobile/bin/www.chess.com/Chess.com.jar

3. Download the file and save it on your computer

4. Transmit file "chess.com.jar" to your mobile phone from the computer - using a cable, bluetooth, card-reader, etc.

5. Install on your phone

We hope that solves the problem. If not, please contact us, and we'll do our best to help. Unfortunately, it may simply be that the app won't work on your model of mobile phone.

Chess.com works fine on my Blackberry...I cannot castle King's side if I am white but, other than that, it is good!

I am using it right now

I think I've found a solution for installing the Android App (if you are on BB 10 - not tried on earlier OS). See in "Help& Support" my post "(Feb'14) An App for Blackberry that works (finally!)"
