Theory of chess (Max Euwe )
Blind chess

When you play 3 day (correspondence) chess, pick out a game and think about the position a few times a day when you're in the shower, or riding a bus, etc. This helps improve your board visualization a lot - because the game matters and you're familiar with the position.
Then try to play Blindfold with a friend and play as many moves as you can without any major errors. Eventually you will get better.

I agree with @xlote, I used to read chess book and try to memorize positions as they went from one chess position example to the next.

Blind chess is mental torture... The Russians knew better , they had forbidden it for a number of years...
Blindfold Chess by Eliot Hearst and John Knott (2009) is a good book on the subject. It tells about the history, the psychological studies, gives comments from GMs about playing blindfold, and talks about techniques.
The Inner Game of Chess by Andrew Soltis is also a good one.
