a few days ago i decided to try my luck at blitz. I only play rapid 10 min games and my rating was in the 1200. so having not played any games on other time control my rating was 400 everywhere exept rapid. i started a game and to my surprise my rating was not 400 but the same number has my rapid whitout ever having played blitz before and my opponent was in the 1200. i won the game and they upped my elo by another 200 so now im sitting at 1414. why couldn't i start my blitz run at 400 and rise quickly until i loss?

If another rating exists, that's a better initial rating than a default. It should more quickly get you to an appropriate rating and doesn't give lower rated players such an imbalanced matchup.
