Lala...computer chess? I've already said: sterile, mechanical, clinically-detached chess and so on and so forth.

Now Bobby!!! Queen sacrifices up the kazoo. Shows up late and loses the first two games against Spassky but still wins the tournament!!! That boy had class and was a true artist at chess.

   Now, please: "Uncle!"

Bonny-Rotten

Bobby was the original terminator.

Bonny-Rotten

6-0, 6-0, 6-0 ..... obvious terminator.

I'm trying to recall a quote by Bobby. Can't seem to find it. He said something like "Where is the art?" He did believe in creative, artful chess. And some of his games show it. But the quote, I can't seem to find. Anyone?

Lola, computer programs have mar chess creativity. Kramnik and Leto match, Kramnik rely on computer program to win a game (Ruy Lopez: Marshall Gambit) and Leto refuted computer analysis and won. That is the danger in relying on computer analysis. Past masters were the true heroes, they invent chess and true pioneers of chess. A much older expert friend show me games of Spassky, I was blow away and the young Spassky played some truly creative games. do you know Spassky has an even score against Kasparov, that tells you the strength of Spassky, to be even against a 2800 rated player.

Besides considering himself an artful chess player, Bobby also considered himself to be a scientist:

"I felt that chess... is a science in the form of a game... I consider myself a scientist. I wanted to be treated like a scientist."

Bobby Fischer

Bonny-Rotten

Yeah, a kind of chess scientist, not the batty ones that chase down invisible holes.

Fischer was a powerhouse of a player, completely dominate players of all strength. A lonewolf who rely on his talents not a team of grandmasters and did all his own work ,not like  Soviets GMs.

I love GM Tal stare, that is creative chess.

Bonny-Rotten

He was, along with Tal I think the most colorful players. My favourite chess book by miles is My 60 Memorable Games. He threw everything he had into his love of chess and unfortunately didn't plan too good for his retirement ( boy did he suck at sociology :) ).

Here is the Bohemian Karpov, he kind of looks cool; like a surfer. Laughing

Milk is for weenies. I'll go with Scotch on the rocks...and I've been to Scotland.

I was just digging around on youtube about some of Bobby's stuff. He did predict back in 1975 that computers would someday kill chess. That was quite insightful. There were no personal computers back them. I bought my first one in 1980 and very, very few individual had one at that time.

Bobby was correct, in a sense, but wrong...very wrong, also. Nowadays far, far more people play and study chess because of computers. As an example, I typically have about 50 games going at all times (here and elsewhere) on the internet. But it is difficult to find friends or neighbors who can play.

And just before Bobby died (if he had taken better care of his health, he would be alive and my age. Of course, I almost died several times but today's medical care is unbelievably excellent.) he said that chess is dead. It has become too mechanical, too memorized.

Well, that may be true on a GM+ level, but I have still much to learn...as do most players on this site. If we get as good as Bobby, then we can all say the same as what he said. Me? I doubt that I'll ever get to that level. He was truly one of the best! Smile

   Lala: "Uncle!!!"

Karpov was one skinny dude.

Then all of a sudden, he just inflated like a balloon.

Bonny-Rotten

What's the name of that fish again, that does that ?

Bonny-Rotten

Ah that's the one! thanks towelie!

Online chess has made available to players all over the world, there is more chess information; I am against is  computer chess programs, this has kill chess. Today a non-title player can argue with GMs and say "but My Computer Chess program rated 3200 give this evaluation and you are wrong Mr.GM rated 2560 elo. It make a player lazy and relying on computer program analysis and evaluation; a low rated player  will do better analyzing on their own. I know a friend rated 1500 uscf, never went beyond 1700 uscf but after he finish his club game, he has the mr. fritz do the all analysis. When I was low rated my first goal was to analyze better and accuarte, that is how you get better; I give thanks to Kotov "Think Like A Grandmaster", it change the way I look in a position.

Here is Young Karpov's Intimidating stare, it is so cold hearted stare I mean business type of stare; I love it.  That why Korchnoi lost the match, it was Karpov snake eye stare, it is so imtimidating. Laughing

Karpov remind me of Dracula.

Another weapon Karpov use if the stare does not work is his Soviet scythe, and that the end for ex-comrade Korchnoi.

Who can argue with that type of weapon, Korchnoi fail and was destroy and Kasparov almost fail but he had a bigger Soviet scythe.
