Bobby Fischer Lacked Creativity ?....How Dare I !

Ok bang bangs, you're the boss.

I'm not the one here that needs to think-- I know what's happening to MagMax right now.  For the first time in years his confidence is rocked, not by the losses to Caruana (who plays white in the Berlin better than anyone else) or Anand (a legend who outplayed Magnus in a quasi-Breyer--not Magnus' best opening), but by not knowing the rules for this tournament.  He embarrassed himself on his home turf in the first round and he hasn't gotten over it yet.  That's all.  Or do you really think that he is doomed to be a cellar-dweller for the rest of his career?  The idea that he is done from one bad result in one tournament is just as ridiculous as the crowning of Caruana as the next champion from his one outstanding result in one tournament.  Calm down; this will not last, just as Caruana's success has not been repeated.  By your logic, the whole chess world should now bow down and genuflect in the general direction of Topolav, right?  I don't see that happening anytime soon.

The soundness of sacrifices don't make them legitimate sacrifices?  Are you kidding me?  You should deliberately play bad (unsound) moves and hope it works out for you?  By that definition, Topolav scored a briliiancy in the first round.  Sorry, that don't cut it.  There is no way I will ever agree with that--bad moves are bad moves, and if they work out, you're not good, you're lucky--like Topolav in the first round.  There's an expression that a strong player told me a long time ago, "The problem with swash-buckling chess is that you cannot swash if the other player doesn't buckle."  The fact that you describe the '72 as blase tells me all I need to know here--and when computers play in events with their rent hanging on the outcome, or with their children in the hospital, then maybe I'll consider what they have to say as valid.  You might as well ask a hammer or any other tool.  But there was an incredible amount of tension in the '72 match and Spassky did not rise to the occasion, just as Anand did not rise in Chennai.

And show me where I made this statement: "Rocksolid water-impenetrable chess may not a Bohemian player make."  You get no pass from me on this, and you don't put words in my mouth.  If that's the best you have, you lose.

Well, I guess I just got beached out again. That's two in one day.

Oh happy Tuesday....Frown....

....and BTW, MC is just a bit tender & vulnerable right now. I mean, you would've thought he would've made a better showing at his very own tournament, wouldn't you feel ? He's been a bitter disappointment....especially for his fan base.

Hopefully he can get over it....for your sake dashkee. Only time will tell.

I agree with the above with the exception "for my sake."  It will be for his sake.  But what is he, 24?  He should improve in the next few years (which is a scary thought).  First crisis of his career--he's young, he'll get over it.

But I have an idea for you.  There's a lot of negativity about this thread, and it seems to be wearing on you.  So why not make one about the creative abilities of Tal, Nezhmetdinov, Bronstein, etc.?  I think it would do you a whole lot better.  Peace

@ Lola, you can hold to your views but try to be flexible opinions. To say Fischer had average creativity is insulting, a player cannot be world champion with average creativity. Even Capablanca, Karpov and Carlsen having dry style doesn't a lack of creativity, there is beauty in their games. Try to be objective and fair, you can disagree and come to the conclusion that creativity can be define many ways.

Drink some white wine and relax and have happy Tuesday.

(#1022) I would like to know (from you Yuri) how I can go from stating my belief with examples to a person that is disingenuous. That's a bit of a desperate stretch, don't you think ?

Maybe you should dust off old Mr. Webster and revisit the word disingenuous.

And BTW, when you look it up ?....you'll have to know how to spell it right.

yureesystem

Lola, your opinion what is creative chess is narrow. There is many forms of creativity. That is all I will say.

ISeeHowYourePinned: "Since I really want this thread to die, I'll say YES, Borby Fischer was a complete patzer with no creativity whatsoever... this is what the Lolala wants to hear, this is what I'll say. All righty?"

Done!

Now we can all go home.

I'm on move #55 on another site and up 3 points. The opponent says:

He: "How about a draw?"

Me: "You know perfectly well that I'm up 3 points. But I will accept your resignation."

He: "Just a thought. You are going to have to earn it."

Me: "I will. And then you will be my bitch."

Funny, hah? I never talk like this...in fact, I almost never talk during a game (unless with a friend).

I always accept draws when we are close. Preferably I look at a draw when we are equal materially and tactically/position. I will even accept a draw (sometimes) when I am ahead 1 point. But 3 points? Insulting.

But he knows that it can take maybe another 30 moves and he will drag it out the full 3 days per move. That's about 3 months...maybe around the beginning of October.

What does this have to do with the late great Bobby? Nothing. Just a change of subject, away from the nasty Bobby bashing stuff.

Hey, Bobby...would you have accepted the draw I was just offered? He just whispered in my ear: "No...HELL NO! And I would kick him under the table!"

   That's my Bobby!

News Flash...

He just posted to me: "How old are you, 5?" and resigned.

Totally unexpected. Unusual, to say the least. Resigned???

I'veGotCrabs: "Are Harvey_Wallbanger and theghostesslola secretly in love?"

No. We do, though, have a love/hate relationship. I don't even understand it. Too complicated to explain.

The_Ghostess_Lola

I'm sorry Ronald. I forgot. I did look at it tho' on Friday (?). Wasn't it about a book or something ?....and TY for your thoughtfulness....Smile....

I hope you're keeping well my love....

I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!!

Harvey_Wallbanger

Upon reflection, I suspect that my unique, outrageous audacity brings a smile to Lala's face. It's artistic. It is not something that can be contrived. Lala and I share an impish smile and have our tongue stuck out at the world.

btw...I don't look like this. This is a conceptual interpretation of sorts. A euphemism of that which one feels when they play Bohemian chess and don't take life far, far, far too seriously like...well, like my old friend Elroch, for instance.

Nessajja

I didn't think Elroch took life seriously.

He seems more into the theories popular among people whose brains are running below 5 %

Harvey_Wallbanger

Elroch is a nice kid. I like him. I would hire him to teach my grandkids math, physics, biology (although they wouldn't listen). But I wouldn't bring him to a New Year's Eve party.

He's reading this at this very moment and getting a swelled head.
