Bots level paradox/issue

Today, I (840ish Elo in rapid chess) played a game against Emir. The thing is that I know the moves of the king's indian classical variation so I decided to hit him with this opening as white.

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6....

And it keeps going on. It took Emir 8 moves to finally stop playing theory. He played the very random 9. ...Bh6. I played theory again and he put his bishop back on g7. And this is very weird. This bot knows theory well and then decides to randomly throw the game and play a very rubbish random move exactly like he was a 2000Elo master and that he suddenly remembered he was supposed to play like a beginner/intermediate player.

This is also what a french IM by the name of Julien Song said and this makes me wonder as well : Is this normal for a 1000Elo human player to know the moves of an opening like a king indian this far or am I just crazy and dumb ? Anyone had similar experiences ?

I dumped the game in question but I played him again and this time he did the weird 7. ...Nc6
