Boys are better chess players than girls

TRUE!

Maybe there's a difference that is only really noticeable at the higher levels of chess. I'm not really a scientist (yet) so I can't speak to what types of traits might lead to a superiority in the game of chess. However, there obviously is SOME difference between a GM and the Super-GMs and even another gap between them and the world champion candidates. For all I know, it could just be a very small difference that accounts for those 100 elo points at the very top of the game. I find it to be an interesting subject and I'd love to know if there's some "genetic difference" that keeps all players from reaching the same level as a Garry Kasparov or a Vishy Anand.

What about bridge ? I have read that more women play bridge than men, are the best players women then ?  I have no idea...... anyone ?

And while we're on the topic of gender differences:

If you run across a stupid, trollish, sexist comment in a forum..

the odds almost guarantee it was made by a man.

The best of men chess players rank higher than the best women players, that is true-- it's the same in feats of strength and speed... however, what's being overlooked is the bigger picture. For better of for worse we happen to live in a patriarchal society, and these "games" are the ones that rise to the top of a patriarchal value system. If we lived in a matriarchal society, I'm sure we (men) would fail to measure up to women. Incidentally, competitiveness itself is a patriarchal value. I give women kudos for doing as well as they do in all our precious little games: The Polgar sisters, Danica Patrick, Annika Sorenstam, Serena and Venus Williams, etc.

What % of women who take up chess reach the GM title ? What % of men ? Yes, overall many more men play chess than women but if they are equal shouldnt roughly the same % from both groups reach the GM level ?  Do they ? Is there any board game in which both males and females participate that women dominate ?  Checkers?  Backgammon ?  Shogi ? Go ?

how can one ever achieve he same as two?

One can still be better than the other two though. It doesn't require numbers to be better.

...some girls' mothers are bigger than other girls' mothers...

But my point is, no woman has ever contended seriously for the world championship. I know that women can be very good chessplayers, but no one has ever shown that they can reach the same level as the very top male chess players. While it might be unlikely that men are just "better" than women are at chess, there is no evidence to this point that women can reach that level.

Everywhere else the density is pretty much equal.

However, the most density can be found in those who continue to insist that women are not as good as men at chess.

haha.  turkey, you so crazy!

Sorry, didn't see your post. >_< If you think I'm crazy now, you should see my home videos.  This was me at four. Tongue out Since then, I've become only slightly more tame.

My point is that there will never be the same "number" of high-level females as males because there are more males and because of that there is no way to make a generalization like one that the op made.

While the actual numbers may never be the same shouldnt the % be the same IF they are really equal ? Is this hard for you to grasp ?

No, men are not better at chess than women, it's just that more men play.

So does that theory apply to everything? Is England just as good at football as Brazil, just not as many people play?

more men play chess than women, therefore more men are better at chess. by the way people use to say men were better at science and math than women, well i am a girl and i could kick most males' asses at math and science. also, remember absolute statements like the one you made are always wrong:)
