A trip to Bulgaria in the summer

Hi,

I'm making some plans for the summer and I'm thinking of going to Bulgaria for a few weeks (I like travelling).

Can someone, who's local, tell me where the chess is at (what cities) and also how I could arrange some accomodation? It would be nice if I could crash at your place (a fellow chess player) - I'll pay of course. But if not then could you tell me the best way to make some accomodation near a chess event. Say in late June or early July.

If you could help me with some words and phrases (just the basics) then I could take you out to some restaurants when I arrive! ;)

Regards,

Playdane

myhorseandprawns,

Are you trying to tempt me with some offer? It'll take more than that to get me to Syria, ha ha!

Again, if anyone has any local info then I'm interested. I've looked at several possibilities in the summer, but mainly I'm interested in something like Golden Sands A tournament - but a few weeks later (since I can't go until the end of June at the earliest). I'd be grateful for any help on the subject.

Regards,

Playdane

What does that mean? Quick Google Translate. Go to... Oh.

Hmm... well, I can do Google Translate too. And I wouldn't use just anything from here but nice try! But I like the sound of the words... the v's are nice to say.

In any case, I now have a whole list of greetings found online but sadly the pronunciations are probably wrong. And the alphabet is just totally... Russian! :)

@MelvinDoucet: I would want to chat with this guy first via Skype. And to be honest, I've changed my mind about crashing at someone's house. Some guidance about the local area would be sufficient. I don't need a GM teacher. At least not for now. If I move to Bulgaria at some point then maybe I'll take some lessons up.

Has anyone here learned how to pronounce the Bulgarian letters (or whole useful phrases)? Could you post some good resources online? I want to come a bit prepared so I can at least ask some very basic questions. Things like: 'Where am I?' 'Can you tell me the way to my hotel?' And of course: 'Checkmate... really?'

Thanks in advance!

So... I've found a site that deals with languages and also a lot of stuff on youtube.

Thanks for the replies; I won't be needing any more help.

Just remember that in Bulgaria, nodding means "no":

Dzienkuje, Crazychessplaya!

I actually learned that on a youtube video. Very strange but good to know in advance. Imagine asking: 'Can you help me?' And they're nodding but saying nothing...
