Bullet isn't chess

I think some people are taking this too seriously. While it is true there are a lot of things in bullet, that do not have ANYTHING to do with ANY kind of other chess; in my preferred time control 2|1 which is still counted as bullet on this website, there is some room for tactics and some strategy. Also, in 2|1 it does take some skill to beat an opponent, for aforementioned reasons. Blindly premoving will merely result in a very quick checkmate if you are playing an adequate opponent.

But please do not misunderstand, bullet is still not anywhere close as strategic as even blitz, not even IMO.

Best bullet game!!

Blitz is BETTER than bullet

Ah_Vignette

Bullet is fun though. I've played too much recently though and need to start using longer time controls before I develop bad habits.

Bullet chess may not be "real", but you can be assured you most likely are playing a human, instead of a engine.

ArgoNavis

So your reason to play "bullet" is that this page is full of cheaters?

That's sad.

And I read somebody said (not looking at you BetterofSingle) that blitz and bullet require more skill than chess...

Nice insults to chess...

Also to be noted that I didn't say anything against blitz, only bullet.

There's not as many cheaters as some people believe. Sure it happens but contrary to popular belief, standard is not full of cheaters.

5/0 is the time control that most people play at clubs. This is basically a bullet game. Yes you have few more minutes to think, but often they spend them on just few moves at openings/middle game. Games are decided by bullet skills. OTB is even worse than online.. pieces fly.. they put them on wrong squares and still continue to hit clock and play. After a lost you can't quiit ot stop and you have to receive the bad energy from your opponent.. Thats not chess for me. 1/0 online is more chess than this. Premove is a skill. At low level bullet is not chess, but on higher level is

why would they cheat?

BlunderLots

Bullet has that added element of speed, true. And yes, in the final moments of the game, premoving becomes an element of the game.

And it's also true that blunders occur more often when time isn't a luxury for one to calculate.

But even in bullet, good players still strive to make good moves.

Hey, bullet chess is good when the time control is 2/1. 1 minute is basically "how fast can you move you mouse" chess.

Ziryab

Every game is full of errors, regardless of the time controls. Bullet is no different. I've captured en passant in bullet chess. If that's not real, what is?

I've won via checkmate in hyperbullet.

Misssed approach!

Ask Hikaru Nakamura (and many other good chess players) if they CAN play bullet chess. Yes, they can. They KNOW to play chess, so doing it by use of computer and mouse instead real board changes nothing.

They, the best players, may at their 1 minute crush off the board anyone rated 2000 or less in a game 1 min vs. 5 or 10 min for weaker player. They know how to play chess.

Your approach is missed, because you (incorrectly) think that IF YOU can't do something then noone else can. False.

And it's not all about premoves. It's about having some chess literacy, achieving certain level of play etc.

The ONLY thing it is NOT about is: The Score. Because the bullet score is irrelevant. It is for practice and/or for fun only.

And - yes, weak players can play only random moves, eventually learn a few "dirty" tricks, doing it faster than opponent who finds the way to squeze some 40 to 80 moves of either something close to decent chess moves or even really decent moves.

And last but not least important: we played bullet chess at the clubs and with mechanical clocks even 50 years ago. Usually 3 minute games, but went also way down to 1 minute!

Why? To have fun, kill the chess clocks (just kidding about that), to practice situations and ultimate pressure in the Zeitnot (time shortage) because even in the decent timed games like 30' one may face the need to play out tens of moves within last minute. Happens more often in blitz...
