burnout

Chess has been my primary hobby for this entire year. Whenever I had free time I played it. However I have noticed I am not improving much. This paired with recent rating drops and overall play strength has left me wondering. Am I burnt out? My motivation to play chess is on a drastic decline and I’m not sure how to stop it. While I want to continue playing chess I worry I might be playing too much and low quality games. Even when I take the time to slow down my moves I am still blundering significantly. Do any of you have advice on what I can do to get back on track?

Play different time formats or engage in different forms of chess activity. Ex: read a chess book

It takes so much dedication to get extremely good at chess, so I suggest reevaluating why you play chess. Is it something you do just to do it, is it something you genuinely see yourself doing in the future? In all honesty that’s what creates the difference between us and the best chess players, their deadly dedication to the game itself as if it were their life.
