Calling all Masters!!!

In the past year or so I've added a few items to my bucket list, some of them serious, others not. For instance, I've made it my personal goal to convince my AP Government teacher to make it a class project next year to get me elected mayor. I DO want my name on the ballot, but it would be silly to expect anything else.

But on a more serious note, I decided to pursue gaining a title in chess within the next few years and I was curious about learning some roads that have been taken by people that have reached that point. Some are prodigies and others through hard work. Details would be appreciated Cool

Getting a title (e.g. NM, or even FM) is possible for any normal person who loves chess and is ready to spend a few years studying it & playing in tournaments.

Not so sure about GM level. I am an optimist who believes that sky is the limit, but many GM-friends of mine think that only very gifted players may reach that level of expertise.

I certainly love the game but I've never played a true tournament before so I'm not entirely sure where I stand. But no one at my high school's chess club is any competition for me and whenever I'm in downtown chicago or in Washington Park New York I love to play speed chess OTB and I fair pretty well.

You probably were checkmating CM in 10 moves by the time you were 3 though so I doubt I'd have the conviction to shoot for the GM title.

Maybe a good first step would be to play in a open tournament and see if you enjoy the experience

Haha. You're probably right.... You can't walk before you crawl.
