can a player make the best move 90% of the time

I played a game against a player rated below 1400 in a line I knew fairly well. I lost. Upon computer analysis the player selected THE best move 90% of the time. I wonder if grandmasters are able to do this let alone a sub 1400 player. Is there any other explanation for this happening except for the player utilizing a chess program. I am really curious. Thanks for your input

I've played games that accurate... but it's because my opponent's position was terrible and the best move was often capturing something for free.

So depending on the complexity of the game and their rating it's possible... but it may also be a clear indication of cheating, yes.

Yes, for either of the following:

1. They cheated.  Which the discussion of is not allowed, but its done constantly anyway.

2. Your opponent played so bad, the best moves are easy to find.

Was it your latest Closed Sicilian game?
I looked at it and you played like a [removed -- MOD] idiot.
Then you're going to come on here and accuse your opponent of cheating?

Let me repeat.

There is no indication of whether the game was "live" or "online" in the OP's post, unless I'm missing something...

If it was an online game, the opponent could have been using the game explorer or some other database... so almost all of the moves in the opening would then have to be discounted from the 90%.

If there were any checks or captures there may have only been one reasonable move open to the opponent... again that has to be discounted from the 90%.

If the game went to an endgame which the opponent might know (ignore their rating, they could be terrible in the middle game but be an endings giant)...

On the basis that someone can play 40 or 50 moves perfectly and then lose the game because of one move... 90% isn't that great.

I'm not saying (with my rating) that I can hit 90% or anywhere near that, but it doesn't necessarily mean anything...

Alright sorry, maybe you're actually referring to a different game where you sacrificed a piece for no compensation and followed it up with another ridiculous piece sac.
Is that the one?

It can happen, although you should post the game you're referring to, otherwise it's all just speculation.
