Can I become a GM?

I am playing a game with the OP.  Perhaps he is trying especially hard against me, but in this game he is playing (much) better than his rating would suggest, and I expect with study he can become at least a 2000-rated player. But I do not see evidence of a future GM.  When I played future GMs such as  Emms and Norwood as youngsters there was a special quality to their playing  even when they were lowly rated and relatively weak, that distinguished them from most of my other opponents

Can you play with me and read my future?

No _you can't and _you won't become a GM.

Life is hard and _you not hard enough to get it to a GM, otherwise _you wouldn't ask, _you would know if _you were able to do it.

possible, there was a person with a 'profile' telling everyone not losing and driving his ego through every thread. But that might be another one

I am 22 years old unrated player. My game is strong. I can give a tough fight to players rated in the range of 2000-2200. Do I have any chance of becoming a GM? Am I over aged to think of becoming a GM? I have no exposure to coaching. I develop my game on my own and playing with the computer and solving tactics here. Is it sufficient? At this rate how many years will it take to reach the elite level?

Blitz rating of 1501...what is your OTB rating? If you don't have one at 22 forget about even becoming IM.

I'm 17, I learnt how to play chess 1 year ago and I'm already averaging 1750 ratings on different sites (in blitz) and 2000 in standard. I am better and made more improvement than most of these losers telling you you can't be a GM. Don't listen to them, they can't determine your future. Just create an opening database on chessbase, but endgame books abs middlegame books. One book I would recommend is buying NEW ART OF DEFENCE IN CHESS. Very good book, if you get really good at the defense methods and counter attacking you'll add 300 or 400 elo ratings. What really separates a GM from those is their defense and resources- and this is what the book teaches.  You should also buy middlegame books and plans for each of your opening repertoire.

Great you 2 can start a club together.

I will play anyone, but only at 2 or 3 day chess.  Judging by your ratings you would destroy me at bullet and blitz.

If you want me to tell your future then please brew a cup of (weak) tea from (half a teaspoonful of) tea-leaves, drink it, photograph the pattern of tea-leaves in the bottom of the cup, and eMail it to me.

Really.  I left it too late to enter myself, but I can easily get there and say "Hello". Can you send me his real name by private message, so that I can find him?

1. Correct.  You do not have to be a child (or even an f****** child if that is some special type of child) to become a GM.  But it helps!

2. You are not strong enough yet to know what makes the difference between a GM and the rest of us, but it is certainly a heck of a lot more than being a resourceful defender (important as that is)

The truth is,there is no status equality in chess, everyone wants that coveted pie called GM but miserably fails. When i see all this i just cant help but think whether chess was a necessary invention for mankind?!

The problem isn't with chess, the problem is: I want to be a GM; I want to be a doctor; I want to be an accountant; I want to be a pop star.

People want the accolades, medals and reverence and have forgotten about 'being' and are concerned with  'wanting to be xyz'. It's all ego.

Lol, I doubt the OP is in Tata Steel.

If he was then it would be hard to explain how he was p;laying an  on-line game with me at the same time!

Blackvenom_002

Forget about Tata steel,he is likely to get crushed at entry level anywhere in the world,i bet.
