Hi everyone! I bought my husband the LOTR chess set for Xmas and as an extra Xmas present I would like to learn how to play to surprise him further. Do you think it’s possible to do so in just 4 months? Do you think this app is enough to teach me or should I be buying a book?

I would highly recommend reading a chess book, they are very informative. Try and research some openings before you start to play. I find IM Jeremy Sillman’s book very informative, you should try them. I don’t think playing chess without prior knowledge is a good way to learn how to play

If you are talented you will progress faster. If not you have work to do

Absolutely, you can definitely learn to play chess in four months, especially with focused practice and the right resources! Many apps are quite effective for learning chess, as they often provide interactive tutorials, practice games, and strategic tips. However, combining the app with a basic chess book could give you a well-rounded understanding of the game, as books often offer deeper insights into strategy and tactics. Consider using the app for interactive learning and the book for a more in-depth study of the game's principles. If you don't have time to learn this game because of your pending homework then I can help you out by sharing the https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/best-research-proposal-writing-service-top-5-websites-6croe website link with you where you will find the best research proposal writing service. Whenever I get stuck with my essay assignment, I always prefer to get help from an online essay writer and I always choose the given link to find a writing service because I can also read reviews over there.

Don’t stress about perfection. Chess is a game that takes years to master, but the initial learning phase is the most fun because you see rapid improvement.

Well when you say you can't play, what don't you know?

Well here is my suggestion:

The most importetnt thing is to play. Not to many not to few. Minimum of 1-2 games, max. of 4 games per day. Rapid (10 min) is the best for starters (in my opinion). Analyze each game. With the daily one game rewiew or/and with the analysis tab. But at last: have fun. Don't take it to seriously.
