Many have answered but let me provide my insight in general talking about human brain versus machines. The human brain is of course a very complex biological machine, and no man-made machine (or alien machine happy.png) for that matter is currently a match for the human brain. Remember that it is the human brain that created Stockfish, airplanes, computers, cars, rockets, cities etc... Stockfish will never be able to rival a human brain, ever and that is generally speaking. Would Magnus be able to beat Stockfish? Possibly yes, maybe a few times win or draw when he is at the top of his physical and mental condition. Would he be able to beat Stockfish consistently? Of course not. Why not? Stockfish is a machine that has nothing else in its "life" except focus on playing chess. Magnus on the other hand, being a human, even though chess is his "career" has to deal with whatever humans need to deal with, so I would say at least 50% of the brain resources are focused on "living" activities (conscious or subconscious), therefore at best, it's only 50% that resource of the brain is focused on chess. Stockfish is 100% focus on chess at any second of its existence. That is one main reason why specialized human-made machines are better at specific tasks such as chess than humans are....

IMO

About of the "philosophical reasoning with bot vs man" :

a : There's no need to explain for ex. that even a low IQ man is more intelligent than bot because he has a real intelligence to tell a delirium like actually the low IQ would be stronger than bot at chess even if he loses all the time because he has a "superior intelligence". Chess isn't even an IQ test and a low IQ can manage to be stronger at chess than a meduim IQ and this isn't measured by an IQ test but by winning or losing at chess.

Example grotesque I'll take "mental computational" and ask who's better, a man or a calculator ? Even if the calculator is a machine with artificial intelligence, this doesn't mean that a man being with real intelligence will be more efficient than a calculator. Calculator still concretely better than a man and the fact that calculator is a no brain doesn't change that "no High IQ can match with calculator in terms of mental computational performance".

b : https://youtu.be/YRGdndC9IKo (the video is not interesting in itself it's just to prove that this show tv really exists) we have a show tv with sporting events pitting bear vs man. It begs the ridiculous question of who is stronger between bear and man ?

Why this question is ridiculous even if we are capable of debating without laughter or sarcasm ? Because from the outset we're comparing something that "can't be compared" with two different species that don't have the same natural abilities.

Ex. for a bear that can weigh 600 kg it can be not a difficult effort to lift 180 kg but for a man that can weigh 90 kg it can be horribly difficult to lift what is twice his weight.

On the subject of chess, how many men manage to calculate 3 million positions per second ? In reality it's just ridiculous to compare the man and the bot like if would be the same species with the same natural abilities etc.

I think if given unlimited time to make a move or finish the game,Magnus might have chances to achieve drawable position..More interesting question for me is, what is the highest engine rating that Magnus can beat? He may lose 100% of the time to the highest elo stockfish(3634 elo as of Feb 2024)..but can he beat stockfish that is set not at the max elo? If yes, what elo of stockfish is beatable to Magnus?

Nobody can beat stockfish!!

a : As no one has fun playing in long time against bots there is no point in asking the question in long time and in rapid time it won't be easier for Magnus Carlsen to beat Stockfish.

b : In 15m+1s (there is an anomaly in the Chessmaster program which makes that the bot can lose at the time if we don't put the 1s per move) I think in the long term Magnus Carlsen would not succeed against Chessmaster 11 now in the long term Stockfish is stronger than Chessmaster 11.

c : I have no doubt that a strong bot can calculate 3 million positions per second (to say really a lot of positions) without ever tiring, on the other hand Magnus Carlsen or any human chess player that you consider to be the strongest, I have big doubts (in truth I definitely know that it's not possible).

In short imo if Magnus Carlsen doesn't find a bug or a programming anomaly in the Stockfish program, he can't really get there in the long term because his human capacities are lower than those of a strong bot like Stockfish.

its ai can make mistakes like chatgpt and ai does not understand very complex stragies so it is possible

Avatar of Chess257777

well stockfish is not perfect like chatgpt so it is possible some very complex stragies will beat it
