I'm trying to understand how to read these move lists! Some letters are uppercase, some are lower...

Also, where are the letters on the board?

It is algebraic notation.  The upper case letters are the pieces B - bishop, R- Rook, N - knight, K - King, Q - Queen (no symbol for pawn).  The lower case letters are the squares.  Reading from left to right, the files are a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h.  From bottom to top it is 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.  The numbers are always referenced as White point of view.  You have to imagine the letters on the board.  Sometimes the board will come numbered with the letters and numbers on the outside of the board.
