I can play 10 games simultaneously - all blind untill move 5 or 6. Because I know so many book moves. Then it's getting harder.
For one game: If it is Ruy or Sicilian, then I can play the whole game (with friend, not on veeery high level), otherwise it's quite tough. :)
Can you play blind?

I can play blind a little All you really have to do is just picture a chess board in your mind.
Yes, agree!

Just picture a chess board in your mind.... Well I see part of the picture, but have never really trained it... In my opinion we can all do it a bit, but not really completely. Or can you really see a chess board in your mind?

Unless you are gifted, the first step should be sitting next to an empty chess board and follow the game in your head. That should be easier, but still challenging...
Anyone can play book moves that he memorized blind-folded, but once it gets out of book it becomes incredibly tough. I admire people that can play blind-folded quite well.

Ok seems interesting advise shoopi. I try to understand the frontier between gifted and trained. I'm afraid i'm à mere mortal
I can play blind fairly well.. The bishop moves are the hardest to see for me though :P also knight forks

I can play tic-tac-toe blind. Rock-Paper-Scissors as well.
Everytime I play rock paper scissors blind my opponent always lies! I'll play this game online though, say which one you select and then I'll tell you mine!
I just close my eyes and visualize the board. I find it interesting that I can play blind fairly well but cant follow notation without playing it out on the board

you don't necessarily have to have a board and pieces to play. as long you can visualize the board, you can write down the moves in braille with your opponent.

All you have to do is visualize the current position, then visualize the next move then forget about the last position and look at the current position

I like playing blindold games with my brother (~1500), the games tend to be fairly even (he has a board, he tells me notation of his move, I tell him notation of mine). They help with visualisation.
My problem seems to be forgetting I have a piece if i dont move it for about 15 moves.

Who of you can play blind? Did you learn it or do you just see the board? Is it memory or vision?
i gave a blindfold simultaneous exhibition once, you get good at what you try, it just takes holding starting positions in your mind and also moving pieces, i used 2 mental boards for each game, one that i held the current position static on and the other was dynamic, letting me think ahead. nothing special about it.
