Carlsen, he's already the best player in history as far as raw skill goes.
Carlsen vs Anand 2014 world Chess Championship Thread
Anand +2, Anand is no less than Carlsen. Last year he lost to Carlsen, it does not mean that he is weaker than Carlsen, there are many other factors to look at,
1. the match was held in his hometown, and you can guess the psychological pressure on him as his fans will be expecting much more from him, and since chess is a mind game, if you cannot make mind stable there is a chance that you might end up losing the game.
2. He held the World champion title 5 times and the thought of making it to 6, might have made him nervous IMO.
3. And talking about Anand's seconds for WCC2013, he was missing 2 of his seconds who helped him in WCC 2010 and WCC 2012. so this might be another factor, but i dont think this is the only reason, and it does not matter MUCH. I hope this time he has got a good team of seconds. (Can anyone plaease share their opinion on this? who might be Anand's seconds for WCC 2014. @YaleChess any idea you have? )
...................................................................................
But this time, he has nothing to lose, and he looks very calm and cool these days, so I think Carlsen cant get that psychological advantage over him which he got last year.
So my opinion is they have equal chances. 50-50
Most awaited match, Looking forward to watch some good games, good chess And if score gets tie in classical games then Anand surely has advantage as he is good in Rapid and Blitz chess. In recent World rapid chess championship match, (2013)
Anand-Carlsen score : 1.5-0.5

I treated that game as a tactics trainer. Took me a while but its mate in 1 with bishop block and mate in two, ueen sac, with king move, right? I'm proud I found those anyway.
As for OP I think Carlsen will win it.

That’s strange to have very few post for this post. In my opinion Anand might have chance this time surely, more then the last time thus, I will go for Anand.
@Passionchess7
Hi Thanks for your posting. I am not a chess expertas reflected in my chess ratings.:) but I have few observations based on my limited chess experience.
1). This time Carlsen is world champion so pressure is on him. Carlsen might have overconfidence as he won convincingly last time.
2). Anand has nothing to loose he already lost his crown.
3). He has been playing well for past 6 months and lost only to Aronian but I am sure he would be hiding his preparations.
4). Recently, there was a dip in performance of Carlsen and he was demoralized by Caruana and that shows that he is not invincible.
For Anand-
I think Carlsen is the best in endgames thus, he can play for hours if game goes to endgame and he can win even with slight advantage. I think Anand has to take chances here and he cant be defensive as he was last time. His strength is complicated middle game and I am sure this time he wont go to endgame without any advantage. He has to do well and take the risk in middle games.
What do u think passionchess7?
@yalechess,
Even i am not an expert, but just very passioante about chess
That said, I strongly agree with your all points.
1. But I dont think Carlsen will be over confident when he plays for WCC 2014, because of what happened in recent tournaments like chess olympiad and sinquefield cup. And also he knows that Anand is in good form.
2. Yes, Anand has nothing to lose this time, so he wont be nervous like last time.
3. Absolutely agree with you, he is in good form, like Anand of 2007.
4. And yesm this is what i mentioned in first point, because of these bitter experience, he might not be over confident.
...........................
I agree with you that Anand is really brilliant in opening and middle game, its not that he is bad in end games, you can refer to his recent match against carlsen in World Rapid Championship, where he played well in end game after carlsen blundered and won it. Even commentator told that he cannot see direct win for Anand even thought Carlsen did a blunder, but Anand brilliantly convered it to win, that too against Carlsen who is capable of converting a lost position to atleast a draw. If he can win in short time controls then he can manage well in long games where he gets enough time to play well in end games.
And what i think is, if Anand manages to tie the score in regular time control, then he has great advantage in rapid games later (as he did against Gelfand in WCC 2012), because Anand is known for his blitz playing.

Lmao this question is a no brainer, Carlsen will CRUSH Anand so bad that he will look like a complete patzer

Anand is clearly in better form than Carlsen and I'm sure that he will make history by winning his 6th world championship..... beware Carlsen Anand is coming for you!!!!

I think it's wrong to say that Carlsen has performed badly recently. The two things that might make it look like that is Caruana's spectacular hot streak and the fact that Carlsen has been playing different openings in every single game to make Anand's preparation more difficult.
It's true that Carlsen has all the pressure on him since he is the defending champ and he is bound to spend a lot of time preparing for his first ever title defense, but looking at his recent tournmanets is a bit pointless since he has clearly just been playing for the sake of the world championship.

Anand is stronger than Carlsen, he won Bilbao, Carlsen lost two games in a row once to Caruana and Radjabov, plus Anand won his rapid game against Carlsen thanks to a brilliant move (by Carlsen) when Carlsen could only manage a win in the tournament and become rapid world champion. Also, we have to consider that Anand is back in form, having won a game against Vallejo-Pons. Also, Anand's candidates win was better than Carlsen's since almost no opponent managed to finish on a plus score. We shall not forget that Anand has more match experience, clearly shown in the last match against Carlsen, who is known for boring chess (I can't explain what does "boring chess" mean but hey, what I don't understand I call boring).
And, finally, just to remind you: no home pressure for Anand this time, no 120.000 fans in the stands confusing him in the "opining".
I shall change my flag to India... prediction: Anand - Carlsen 6,5 - 0
That was funny! But you are right.
last years match was so BORING no excitement no risk taking no romantic style - all that anyone cares about anymore is winning by SQUEEZING and GRINDING out boring game after boring game - nobody cares HOW they win (not just chess). There was no creativity whatsoever - I just hope (in vain ) for an exciting swashbuckling match like the days of old. Fischer said the computer killed chess and he was sadly right (at the top level). Years ago there were novelties and gambits - when did either one of these players try anything in the world c last year ? I want to see something to write home about. REAL CHESS not dry laboratory overanalyzed freeze dried chess thats more stale than 3 day old bread. Chess is all about CREATIVITY and ART - I wish someone had the balls to bring it back at this level. Vishy wouldn't even take a risk when he was getting crushed - what difference would it have made in the result ? he may even have won. Carlsen used to be a gutsy player , seems someone cut his balls off for the match. Screw what the computers play like - put life back into this dry game. The old GM's long dead are rolling in their graves looking at what has become of what was once an exciting and creative venue destroyed by wimps ! I am qualified to make these statements as when I was younger , I played strong master strength for many years. Look at Tal, Marshall, Fischer, and KASPAROV's games, they took chances and WON !
Who might win the 2014 World Chess Championship? Plese vote and give ur openion guys as now the candidates are decided.
I will go for Anand +1
