People do occasionally (mainly unintentionally) ask for advice in the forums about a game in progress.
If the players could see the comments of spectators while the game was going on, the spectators would have to be extraordinarily disciplined to avoid talking about possible future moves - which is surely one of the main areas of interest.
I don't understand why, while playing chess, other players can watch your game and chat but you can't see them or talk back. One of the reasons i was given for this by a mod was that it could lead to cheating.
I highly think that is doubtful if all parties concerned were privy to the same information.
As it stands there is nothing to stop someone cheating in that manner by going to the debate room while playing the game and do exactly what the mod said, "Cheat" since it is possible to play and view the debate room at the same time.
