If I was the only one to land a 747, I'd say have the morgue ready. I usually crack up with that one, unless it's Edwards. I went through the 747 start up procedure one time. I don't fly jets very much except the Lear. I got about an hour into it and gave up. I couldn't find all the switches fast, but it must be an hour or two prep just to take off.
I can start a B-17. RIP The Lucky Lady.
I love flying the Catalina in FSX, which is not rated to be in operation on the ground in 25 knot winds. It's like a kite. I set the winds to 40 or 70 knots and just sort of float around. You can do the same with the aircraft carriers, the Bleriot, the Stipa Caproni and old bi-planes, like the Jenny. The most fun is flying backwards. Why they didn't put that in the scene with the Jenny in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, is beyond me. Hollywood doesn't really know anything about anything, but hat's off to Paul Mantz.
Great thing about the Catalina is all the numbers are 90. V1, 90. v2, 90. Rotate, 90. Cruise speed, 90. Landing, 90. Rest speed, 90.
Like ya'll said, landing is the hard part. That's the time to worry.
