Cheating

I paled against an opponent who paled perfectly - no inaccuracies, mistakes or blunders in over 50 moves. I pointed it out and chess.com awarded me 8 points. But how do you detect cheating when the player deliberately makes a blunder or a couple of inaccuracies? Gotham on You Tube was enlightening, at least to me.

I was about to say that. No discussions about cheating in the main forums.

Over the past few months I've played games in which the ability of my opponent varied radically during the game. My opponent would play poorly for a time and lose a piece, but then would play at a GM level - no blunders, mistakes or inaccuracies. It made me wonder if their play wasn't poor, but the piece was lost as a gambit. But then I watched gotham chess on you tube. Apparently some players will not use engines throughout the game, but play their own moves for a while and then use an engine. Apparently they do this to evade chess.com cheating detection software. A perfect game or two may trigger a suspension, but if a blunder is made during the game or even a few intentional inaccuracies, chess detection may be more difficult. One of the cheating tells is time - each move is made at almost the same interval. If the move is obvious or clever, the interval is the same. It's the time to input the move to another device like a cell phone, wait for the response, and then make the move in the game - 10 to 12 secs.
