Cheating Hunter found first cheater?

Hello Friends of fair chess,

my idea is to post regulary cheating persons in forum. How do you think about this idea?

Bye friends, Cheating Hunter

(don't forget please post you opinion about this idea)

Nytik

I have practically no doubt that this person is a cheater. (Sorry Elisa if you aren't!)

I find it interesting that you made an account (almost certainly a duplicate account, by the way) just to catch cheaters. Smile

GIT-REKT

Well, live chess ratings are deflated. There is only a 900 point difference. Nothing fishy here...

Nytik

It is slightly odd that their Long rating isn't abnormally high, though. Ah well.

CheatingHunter

@ Nytik: It is necessary to made an account for hunting. Or somebody knows the real name of Zorro?

Nytik

I could hunt for cheaters, I wouldn't need to hide behind a mask. How else would anyone know the greatness of Nytik?

CRShelton

A difference between live chess ratings and Online chess ratings on this site is not valid evidence of cheating.  There are many circumstances that could explain the gap, not the least of which is that Live chess is still in Beta.

Also, I believe it is strictly against the rules to use the forums for accusing people of cheating.  If you think you've found a cheater, alert the admins of the site and they will deal with the situation.

Gomer_Pyle

I support the finding and banning of cheaters but I don't think this is the right way. If you accuse someone of cheating you ruin their reputation here and possibly at other sites. If they are innocent then you would have done them a great disservice. I think it would be better to just alert the staff if you think someone is cheating. It's their site and they have the tools and authority to uphold their decisions, right or wrong.

CheatingHunter

@ Nytik: I understand you, it is difficult for me too. Never in this accounts live the person under the mask can get real recognition - only the lonely hunter. *smile*

pawnzischeme

I would not do it!

erik

i applaud the enthusiasm and willingness to help. however, cheating accusations in the forums will turn Chess.com into a nasty place, as we've seen before.

please use the Report Abuse link and we will investigate ASAP!

I think this thread is a very bad idea indeed. Although the person in question may look suspicious, it is not for us to organise a lynch mob to string them up from the nearest branch!

Cheaters exist on this site and it is good for everyone if they are weeded out, but if you want to go on a cheater hunt please report your initial findings to the admins privately and let them determine whether or not they think cheating is going on. If you post publicly then we have a witch-hunt situation and some people are going to be unfairly accused and have their names tarnished.

If you do identify cheaters and they are subsequently banned by Erik and co, then post it in a forum AFTER they have been banned.

CheatingHunter

@ all: hmm... I' m a little surprised about the full of answers in short time. Some off you are against posting of possibly cheaters in forum. And I understand this opinion. Maybe I was to much emotional to open such a posting. For moment I think it is better to discuss much more than to post other players.

Here's what I noticed when I looked beyond the ratings and assumptions concerning them.

A lot of the lost games don't go past 20 moves.  This could mean this person has problems using the time controls or it could mean this person disconnects a lot.

Perhaps this person uses live chess to run out different theories or as a lark, playing nonsensical moves and seeing if recovery is possible.

Or perhaps this person is cheating on some games and not others.

Or perhaps the turn-based rating is higher because this person uses opening explorer or other databases, something forbidden in live.

All these things begin with 'perhaps' because these things MAY be.  They are not certain.

What is certain, though, is that this thread targeted a single person and maligned this person's name without evidence beyond supposition.

As Captain Hook would say, "Bad form."

@ all: thx to all for the opinion.  I decided to modify this topic. It's not much more fair to post real accounts than cheating. I think I was to much angry about the big difference of the blitz, long and online games. But I think neospooky says right, perhaps person X cheated and perhaps not.

Takes a good person to be able to post the above, in my opinion.  You're welcome at my board any time, Hunter ;)

CheatingHunter

@ neospooky and at all:

Sorry for this nonsense. It's not my task to found some of unfair players here.

But please understand - now after this topic I feel much better and I see that in fact here about 99% fair players - my live have a sense now ;-)

Closing this topic now! Sealed
