Post 16 had a puzzle with an illegal move in it
Checkmate By King

You CAN'T checkmate by a K. These are both checkmate by R. Duh.
No it's not. Did the rook move?
You're just not getting it are you lol ?
The king is part of the discovered check / checkmate move but ultimately it is delivered by the rook whether it moves or not.
The king simply cannot deliver any checkmate directly within the laws of the game.

NO! The king can never checkmate the other king.
A KING MOVE can checkmate the other King, but the King itself is not what checkmates the King.
For Example, in the position below, a KING MOVE (...Ka2) checkmates the White King, but it's the ROOK that checkmates the King!

That's illegal. You have to legally place opponent's king in check or checkmate with your king

This thread reminds me a lot of a friend who I sometimes play. I always spot him a R, which, after dozens of games, is not enough. Maybe I'll start spotting him a Q. If that doesn't do it, then I'll start giving him two R's.
Anyway, just as some people here refuse to understand that a K cannot check himself (such as moving next to a Q, per above), neither can a K be the checkmating piece.
I don't think my friend will ever quite get this, either. Why just the other day he said, while pointing to my N: "I understand how the other pieces move, but I'm still having trouble with that one." (Well, at least he didn't call it a "horsey"...I give him credit for that.)
btw, I know that he thinks he is smarter than me and the only reason I always win is because I've been "lucky".

Technically, king's can legally check and checkmate the opposing kings, because that's what you write on your scoresheet/moveslist
Kings cannot inflict check, but they can move out of the way of a rook, a queen, or a bishop, causing check
