Chess and Gambling

Chess can be seen as a competition of skill rather than chance or luck, but let's not forget the idea of betting on games that also require some preparation and analytics.
And speaking of other games of chance, for example, about poker, so even more skills are needed there and luck will already help much less.

[removed -- MS]Ultimately, the interplay between strategy, preparation and opportunity to bet adds depth to the comparison between these two seemingly different activities.

Sometimes to win you must lose something ... and one who wins from a losing position is called a gambler. I think chess and gambling are deeply related. It's also gambling when you intent to play black. I don't know the statistical correlation between chess ratings and gambler ratings, however i feel that deep chess players are also deep gamblers.

There are openings literally called "Gambits" where you give up a small amount of material (a pawn or minor piece) to try to win big...

Interesting topic, as I have asked my members if they are interested in playing a tournament with a small entry fee. The cash is paid out of 80% of the fees. It is a team event and the teams are made up based on a sort of a players average skill rating so it really is not random. I run it daily on chess.com and they award diamond memberships for the free event but I could add an option to play for cash with a entry fee. You can DM me if you are interested in the name of the event or my club. I will attach some results of recent daily events and last month's leaderboard results which earned diamond memberships for the top 4 players.

this is the leaderboard for August:

8 members on the leaderboard are below 1000 ELO. Two of the top four are under 1000. If that is not equalizing the opportunities for novice players I do not know what is.

hello

YankeeBastid

just an update on my effort to promote the use of competitions where the result is a payout in cash to the winners, It will also award 35% to worthy causes, like the International Red Cross. so the payout goes 50% to the winning teams, 35% to the worthy causes, and 15% to pay for the operation of the events. Who says Chess can't be used to raise money for supporting the efforts of those who give so much to help others? We are in beta at www.4teamchess.com, check it out to see how it works.

Hence why some imams say chess is forbidden

YankeeBastid

and some imams do not, I would think. I do not know the full history of the game in the Arabic world, it would be nice to understand how the game evolved through the years.

For me, chess and gambling are totally different things.

Gambling is about luck and happy coincidence (well, some card games are also about skills and experience), and chess is only about skills, experience, and strategy.

Maybe chess and gambling share aspects of competition and strategic thinking, but for me, they can never be the same.

But I like both things, and I can say that now I'm more into gambling because the chess game is always the same. But when it comes to gambling, you can find various casinos, games, and so on. Once in some time I like trying new casino because the games are different on sites. And I try to find something cool. Lately I've been playing at https://zodiaccasino.at/ and can say that it's one of the best so far. I've already played a lot of slots there, and some of the bonuses I got were amazing. So now I can say such games are my go-to games. I still play chess, though, but not that much.
