Chess and Intelligent Machines

Chess is defined as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines."

Although this may not appear totally correct to some, I am sure it will be proven in the future. Many constructive elements are used together to create intelligence like pattern matching.

I think the aim of Intelligent Machines and Intelligent Life is one and the same.

"Chess is defined as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines.""

That's not how "chess" is defined.

"I think the aim of Intelligent Machines and Intelligent Life is one and the same."

What would that be?

Complete and utter nonsense. Nearly four decades of play and yet I don't have one machine that was engineered by my games. What the hell are you talking about? wake up.

The aim is to create Intelligence, or self-decision making machines.

Dolphins want to create machines?

An idea is the seed of all imagination and creation in this universe.

So you need seeds?

What was there before the "big-bang"?

Before "big-bang" there was all chaos, wild energies compressed together. The seed defined the laws governing the motion of these energies, or rather gave meaning to the natural forces to work in unison in order to create intelligence.

Wow! How did you find out about this, manavendra?

To find out about this completely, you need first to become totally detached from everything, which is quite not possible normally. Lets take the example of a hypothetical one-dimensional world in a near galaxy where the living people only move on a horizontal axis in their world. Lets take three persons A, B and C, living happily on this planet, in their horizontal world.

<---....----(-2)---(A)---(0)---(1)---(2)---(B)---(4)---(C)----(6)----....---->

Now, lets say you from Earth who percieves the universe in 3-dimensions goes to this planet. Since, those people can't see beyond the 1-dimensions, you simply pick say, person C, and place him on point (1) in their world's axis by simply lifting and dropping him (do not confuse with the term Alien abduction here), like this

<---....----(-2)---(A)---(0)---(C)---(2)---(B)---(4)---(5)----(6)----....---->

Now, this would be a miracle for both A and B there, to see C magically appear to travel from point (5) to point (1), because they simply can't anticipate any movement beyond their 1-dimensional universe. But, it's is scientific, and possible to achieve this sort of miracle, for anyone who is having access to higher-level-dimensions.

In this sense, the seed is the essence of all the existing dimensions.

...What?

First of all, all chess engines use brute force calculation based on certain mathematical formulas. They do not think like a living being, and even if you were to make one a million times stronger than it currently is, it still wouldn't think like one. In fact, "thinking" is a misnomer in this case. No matter how powerful you make a computer, ultimately, it's just an overgrown calculator. In other words, computers, as they are designed today, can never be considered intelligent machines. Also, thank you for the totally irrelevant metaphors. (At least, I'm hoping you just meant them to be taken as metaphors.)

Wow, manavendra, I don't understand you from comment to comment! That's fantastic! So you were able to access knowledge about the state of affairs before the "big bang", because you could "totally detach" yourself "from everything" and see(?) just how magical "higher-level-dimensions" are! Wow! I'm going to go to my back yard and create a crop-circle, asking the aliens to abduct you, because you must be bored here, if you don't mind?Laughing

well, trysts, please have a drink first (or rather two) Kiss
