I did notice it was all men. We need to look after men better.

Chess might make me crazy, but I'd be a lot crazier if I didn't play it

You bring up a great subject here ... yes, it's important to occasionally take a break from chess and do something else ... like play Call of Duty! LMAO! grin.png

@NotThatMoveAgain, how many autistic children do you have? I have one. How many autistic children have you worked with? I’ve worked with hundreds. Do you have a Masters in Special Education? I do. Have you ever played chess with an autistic person? I have. I rest my case!

Another great subject, Pegusu grin.png  MOSTLY I just have 3 people to deal with - Me, myself and I ... my guess is two out of three of us are at least 'slightly funky' haha.  I think the reason why 'we' still basically get along ok is just because we don't have much of a choice - "for better or worse, it is what it is" ! LMAO 🤣

Have fun and enjoy your week 💃  Thanks for the reply happy.png

Thank you for being a peacemaker, @stevea68! I MUST say one more thing to @NotThatMoveAgain - MENGELE?!?? I’m the anti-Mengele. If you want to have a productive, respectful discourse, feel free to text me.

You guessed me, Pegasu happy.png ... well, I can't say I'm entirely a peacemaker, but I tend to try ... and sometimes fail :/  Oh well, it is what it is.  I'm still quite thankful you caught the basic intent 🙏

I appreciate the invitation to message you, but not only do I not know how to do that on this site but I'd have few ideas to talk unless you want to run off to some random place and maybe start up a new (and potentially funky) way of living =D haha 🤣

... yes, it appears 'life' has me close to checkmated and the most viable option now appears to be to bail and begin a new life somewhere else.

Best wishes

chess can make you sick.. and very badly. but it has a potential to make you more healty.. dont go overboard and study openings for years.. like a nerd. then you'll be fine.

Discrediting someone due to the creation date of their account is an attack. I didn't look up your account name creation date until you threw the first stone.

No, it's a valid observation.  You lack credibility.  You linked no citations.  That is a matter of circumstance, not personal prejudice (in fact, how could it be since nothing else is known?).  Suck it up.

I repeat, you linked no citations.  Self-referencing the thread is not a remedy wink.png.

This article is bunk.

You could pick any sport or industry, cherry pick a dozen or 2 dozen people, and write the same thing.

Watch, I'll do it for singers:

Keep your eyes open.  Singers are naturally suicidal.  I won't even mention Kurt Cobain or Michael Hutchence, whose deaths are still in doubt in some quarters, but Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, Keith Flint, Wendy O. Williams, Keith Emerson, Brad Delp, and many others prove the point.  In fact, it is safe to assume that singers that died of drug overdoses were also committing suicide...Elvis Presley, Prince, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison...just to name some headliners.

If you see a singer that is not smiling, please approach them and attempt to administer CPR...and if the singer's name is Keith, call 911 immediately, they are doubly at risk of dying.

Aristotle started this, and people like to flock to it, but it doesn't hold up any better than the chess and IQ being directly related.

This is just irresponsible:

Yes, our game is full of peculiar and eccentric people. But as much as they are socially inept, many of them are alone in their misery and crave for human contact.

So go to the hall and talk to people.

Approach that “weird guy” nobody wants to approach.

Analyze with an elderly master and listen to his the stories from his past – as much as you find them boring.

Don’t make fun of lower rated players – especially in youth categories.

Don’t create additional pressure or reprimand anyone for their losses.

Show people you care about them. Especially those who need someone to care about them the most.

Because you never know.

You might save someone’s life.

If you decide on the spot at some tournament that someone is "peculiar" and approach them with that assumption and start trying to "help save their lives"...well, you deserve what you are going to get.

It is complete bunk to assume rock star overdoses are suicide.

Yes, that is the point of the whole example.  To show how silly that type of argument of correlation is... wink.png

Wow.

Here's your first clue:

I wasn't making a comment to something other than what was in the thread. This would be like discussing a car accident that happened in New York and you come along and say, "Well, can you turn on Google Maps and link us to an accident in Los Angeles?"

No, you were making a comment to someone who listed their credentials...you have two choices, question the credentials (the weaker option), or put forth your own information with citations.  What doesn't work is tossing out an aspersion and fleeing the scene.

Your post below is much better.

No you have stated it as fact . If you were being satirical in this comment you should've made it clearer.

I will be honest about 960.  I have only played 1 game, but I did not enjoy it.

yeah i knew about it but never tried.. still i liked to idea how it breaks preparations and book knowledge. Master players get rusty in time.. and this might be a way out. Still FIDE gives no sh.. i wonder why.

Mental illness and chess...

I'm struggling with mental illness at a point where I have 5 meds/day to take.

One of them reduce my ability to concentrate, to speak fluently (even if my thoughts can be crystal clear), losing words (not knowing what word to use to describe something even if the idea is clear), memory loss etc.

It is just side effects of one med I can get rid off within 2-3 years if I'm lucky.

Regarding these side effects and non-existent social life. I decided last mid-july to get back at chess and going in a club even if it's just to see some people.

I just want to improve my memory and concentration when decreasing a med, that's all for me. I know my limits when it comes to play for real.

I'll stop there. It pains me and sickens me to think about it. It brings back the image of what I once was and what I could have done (not talking about chess).

I'm just looking a precise function of a chess software for training so I'll surely talk about openings in another post.

Thanks for reading me.
