Chess and Santa Claus

What opening would he play? Would you beat him in a game if you could? Would he say Good Luck before a game? Would it be an insult if he won and then said good game?

Do you still like Santa Claus?

Santa Claus is a commercial invention created to the analogy of Saint Nicolas. Saint Nicolas is an invention as well.

In the pagan religion of Northwest Europe you had the god Odin or Wodan (= Wednesday). Every year, when the power of the sun went low, people thought that the hellhound Fenrir was trying to eat the sun. Odin and his wild army (consisting of ancestors, who died in battle and had black faces as they were not living anymore) hunted every year this hellhound. Every year they won and the people could live for another year. This hunt for Fenrir to save the sun started around the 6th of december.

So you see two different themes: the hunting and the protection of the people. As white, he might have played the Aljechin (hunting the knight down with his pawns) and as black he might use the force of his pawns to defend his pieces, therefor playing the Dutch Stonewall.

But Santa Claus? He is very friendly, does not like complication and likes to give presents. He feels good anyhow and wants you to feel good as well. So, what are the openings with which your opponent has an easy task to become better?

With white will he leave the center to you, hence the Reti or English. With black will he give you the opportunity to choose your kind of play, hence the French and King Indian.
