Chess as fertilizer.

How many games does the average person have to play before their games stop turning completely to fertilizer? That's what mine turn into very quickly.

I use scoresheets of losing games as toilet paper. I crumple them up for like an hour in my hands and they become soft on my arse

Depends on the person. Some people play "fertilizer" games all the time Laughing

Nice suggestive title :D Anyhow, first game is usually as bad as all the others :)

Must be the reason behind the Bongcloud opening... I understand certain plants need lots of fertilizer.

There is no answer, because games themselves give you nothing.  If we gained 1/10 of a rating point worth of strength for every game, we'd all be beating Rybka.

You have to get rid of bad habbits and sometimes painfully enforce good ones.  For every move that looks good, work hard to find a response by your opponent that will annoy you... make sure you're willing to play it anyway.  Check all your opponent's possible checks and captures, don't spend 3 moves setting up a trap your opponent can defend with one move. etc etc.

A better question would be how many games do I have to seriously go over, find many of my mistakes, and try very hard to never repeat them again, before I get good.

It also depends on perspective.  I had a 1200 rated player at a club tell me, after hanging his knight, that he "never makes mistakes, so why do I make them against you?"  He repeated "I never make mistakes" probably 10 times...  which of course is ludicrous... but he's used to playing casual unrated players.  The flip side is when I play a master, suddenly I"m hanging pieces, and when the master plays Kasparov, now the master is hanging pieces.

Everyone's game is BS to someone and brilliant to someone.  If you want to know how long it will take before you're not hanging pieces every game (I don't know if you are, but just as an example) then that's up to you, how hard you're willing to work on your game and concentrate on every move until it becomes something of a habit to blunder check, look for opponent's "best move" etc. every move, every time.

God help the one who thinks my games are brilliant!!!  I realize every game is relative, but mine are at the bottom of the barrel. I also fully agree that if somebody rated 1200, or anybody else for that matter, claims to never make mistakes, they would have to be a fool. If they didn't, they would be WC. Mine however, seem to be a mistake from start to finish. I cancelled this account once cause I figured I was wasting my time, not improving on the tactics trainer, but then I realized I wouldn't get a refund, because of my annual membership, so I got it back.

So when and more importantly WHY did your love for the game die? You used to have fun here. Somehow fun left town, where'd it go?

Was it when you decided that you wanted to be something you're currently not? Like... Say... 2500+ ELO?

I suggest letting go of everything that weighs you down. In this case - and quite often in general - it's the harsh self critique that is blocking the flow.

Change the theme from "I'm rubbish and quite annoyed" to "I'm enjoying an interesting learning proces and occasionally having a laugh while doing it"

Example:
My friend and trainer Alex gives me hell. On the board, ingame and also during the following analysis. Statements peak at "you simply DON'T know how to play chess, do ya? HAAAHAAAHAAA!"

He'll do ANYTHING to try and MAKE me revert back into my own headspace. And I'll do anything to avoid just that. It's chess transposed into life.
He can become quite vexed when I simply smile and say "you're right, man, but nobody else wants to play you these days, isn't it?" (obviously this is merely friendly banter, allthough it might seem somewhat harsh ;))

The flip side of me being tolerant to this criticism is that I learn. Bigtime.

I suspect you understand my point, so I shall dig no further. Good luck finding that first love all over again. :)

Your post is stupid stupid crap.

woodshover, you are so close to being intentionally funny, and then you screw it up with your last post. I'm pulling for you though! I am in constant contact with your parents, who obviously have some regrets in life and need comforting words like: "It's not your fault."; "We all make mistakes."; "Chemtrails could be responsible."; Alzheimer's disease could be something to look forward to."; "At least woodshover is not hooked up to a machine.", and, "I wish I could help."Laughing
