Chess Coordinates? are they important?

The only thing that make coordinates (a1-h8) important is when you're read books or watching chess games videos on youtube... is there something else that I've been missing?

coordinates are important as they allows us to learn move, openings, analize games and so on

i mean, if you're older than 8 and you had to ask what the purpose of naming anything is... you know what? im just gonna assume that ur 8. oh, wait, no 8-year-old knows such a word as "coordinates"... ok, i give up - this might be that new breed that trump belongs too. i wasnt really fond of history while in school - i likely missed a lesson about that.
