The primary reason I am interested in chess is that I find games calming, as a result of childhood trauma.
I don't like chess openings. I feel like I'm playing someone else's game when I play an opening. I want to play my game, and win or lose on my merits. That's why I play alot of Fischer Random and other variants.
I've been playing chess since I was a little kid.
I have probably played in ten to twenty tournaments, plus two years of play on my high school chess team. The biggest tournament I've played in was the Virginia Open in either 87 or 88.
Winning is slightly important. If I get outplayed, so be it. If I lose because I make a mistake I should know better than to make, that pisses me off.
The first rule of chess club is that you do not talk during chess club. The second rule of chess club is that you do not talk during chess club. Third rule of chess club: if some one says "I resign" or knocks over their king, the game is over. Fourth rule: only two guys to a game. Fifth rule: one game at a time, fellas. Sixth rule: games are correspondence. No engines, no table bases, no help. Seventh rule: games will go on as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at chess club, you have to play chess.
Chess has absolutely no effect whatsoever on my family life. My family life being non-existant, it is rather hard to affect.
I am doing a final project on chess culture for my anthropology class. I did some informal interviews but did not get quite enough info. If you can help me out that would be great. Just answer the questions below.Thanks.
What is the primary reason why you are interested in chess?
What is your favorite chess opening?
How long have you been playing chess?
What kind of tournament experience do you have?
How important is winning to you?
Are there any unspoken rules while playing chess?
How does chess affect your family life?
I need at least three responses.
