chess enjoyment, motivation and taking it seriously

Hi, what I wanted to know is how I can enjoy the game because anything you enjoy doing you excel at and I find I'm not enjoying the game as I did in the past. How can I get intrinsic motivation (coming from within or wanting it from the bottom of my heart) to become at least a strong player. Also how to take the game more seriously. Because deep down inside you may say I want to be at least a strong player, it's just that I don't want it on the surface. I think I have some potential in the game, I've always been told I'm a good player but I may consider myself a decent player.

I appreciate all you help.
