Yeah. Well Altzheimers is a huge problem now & should be handled sensitively. (Except 10-minutes later they have completely forgotton what you were talking about so doesn't matter anyway:)

Not only chess, but everything is connected with intelligence, including even street fighting, blinking and breathing.

I go from the other angle until they prove me otherwise...I find it much better in life to assume everyone might be smarter than I am...if they turn out to be, they will atleast think of me as smarter than I perhaps I am and I didn't insult anyone's intelligence. If they turn out to be not so sharp, I didn't hurt their self esteem...I find this especially helpful with older people and authority figures...I end up in less trouble

I agree nameno1had except for that shiP talking muppet turd he is dumb as a box of hammers and no amount of books will change that

Then what's your point?  If everything's connected with it, why single out chess?

nameno1had

If you are referring to Netzach...I give him a pass most of the time...he doesn't always act stupid...he's alright sometimes, even though he can be one of the biggest schmucks I've met here...I just chalk it up to being moody and competitive...I can atleast respect the competitive part, though I usually think moody people can stick their bad moods somewhere else... my @$$ is off limits...

Well no wonder I'm such a bad chess player, I need to work on my street fighting skills.

Aw, I like netzach.  Besides, the poor guy's from Scotland (talk about an uphill climb).

Inventing all the important stuff in the world was a breeze.

Having to explain things to the dull-witted is more of a challemge.

nameno1had

I find object lessons work best...

This thread is about question are chess for angry antisocial people and as we can see there are bunch of chess players that have bad experience with people they played with and win the game. And my point is that people gets angry when they lose, becouse they feel their intelligence is insulted. I didn't mention it's only in chess, we feel bad in losing ANYthing in life, If we lose a girl, job, basketball game whatever it make us angry becouse we think there are smarter/better guy that take our job, girl, or playing basketball better.

Thankfully we managed to export Ferguson to another place daft-enough to take him.

Still trying to do the same with Connolly...

You must be a doctor.

blueemu

I can blink like a pro. That makes me intelligent, yes?

here is my take on this:

I see lots of jerks in chess. This whole forum proves it. People being incredibly arrogant, calling each other names, get insulted when losing, accuse others of cheating, etc.

There are historical examples of this. Many of the great players of the past were megalomaniacs, held their opponents in contempt and could not control their anger. Aljechin threw his king through the tournament hall once after losing!

What chess needs is some etiquette, a strict code of behaviour, just like martial arts have. In most asian martial arts, you have to bow to your oppponent before fighting and you are not allowed to speak. Insults would result in disqualification.

in a game that is supposedly for smart people, lots of players act pretty immature.

Yes, chess is a war game and rewards aggression. Winners can get arrogant and high-strung. That is why this type of people are attracted to chess and/or why such people stand out in the chess community. Examples not to be followed.
