me? no. I teach chess to primary school kids and I want them to feel safe. I do not want to promote a culure of bullying, haughtiness and hurt feelings. It happens that kids start crying because of lost games, get into arguments, knock each other's pieces over. Pretty much what happens on this site, actually.

I want to teach some style and manners. Anything wrong with that?

CalamityChristie

where's the killer instinct in all that ?

it is more like being a professional killer who can control his/her emotions. Not like a raging berzerker.

CalamityChristie

"berserker"

you mean like Fischer ?

Bartleby73

that is an example.

What is so great about showing off, ranting, , insulting, etc? Isn't it displaying what a poor wretch one is because one cannot stop from displaying emotions and have to make others feel bad in order to feel good?

CalamityChristie

it's all an illusion!

nobody gets insulted if they don't  take  insult.

anyway i prefer the free expression of the competitive spirit, but that's just me.

Bartleby73

why insult people then in the first place?

CalamityChristie

the instigator may be hoping the person  does  take it on board, for whatever reason.

Tons of jerks.  It's a major reason why I quit playing OTB actually.

CalamityChristie

I agree with most of the comments here. I believe here on Chess.com OTB Tounaments. Not all individuals are out to learn the process of Chess. But, you have some who believe, by not being engaging in the process, or holding their moves until the last moment, waiting for months to play an engaging game; would make the most peaceful individual want to throw a bottle at the wall. But, we have to remember, this is a internet service, for which; it will attract every kind of behavior, that is on planet Earth. So, Just keep focus on your desires and ability. Yes, if necessary, join a Chess Club; and engage in outside activities other than Chess.Com. Because there is nothing like playing others in a personal way. It is more about learning and Socialization.

If AndyClifton spent even 10% of the time he does typing into a box to remove all doubt for us as to how truly intelligent he is, America might just have a new World Champion (too bad his seconds would likely be the 100 monkeys locked in a room with typewriters for 100 years that were supposed to write Shakespeare).

Oh wait, that's too insulting to the monkeys.

TheGrobe

Pff.  Shakespeare.

All those stupid monkeys ever churn out are limericks.

netzach

Yeah!

Assaulting your opponent with ''limericks'' in the chat-box would be a far more heinous-crime than anything yet mentioned.

(in fact I must try that)

fpowe

You guys; Its just a game.Laughing

TheGrobe

Yeah, a game for angry, hugh-string people.
