By the way Thanks for all of the recent posts, I may have forgotten to mention that lol.
Chess for Oldtimers --- Good Idea !
Thanks for the posts AndyClifton, and now as per your request, something funny: ( legal disclaimer: anyone who is sensitive to Age related humor DO NOT read this joke lol ) what is the best thing about having Alzheimer's ? You get to meet a completely new group of people EVERY DAY !!! Let me again apologize to anyone who did not like this joke, however the legal disclaimer is there for a reason ( now how do I send this post over to the thread again ? ).
Thanks for the vote of support Javan64, however the joke is kind of borderline but I wanted to include a age related joke at this time lol.

I think age brings privileges--- including leeway in joking about senility/dementia. Like I always say, "If you can't laugh at yourself, you can't avocado ski!"
Everyone Thanks for the kind words. A couple of years back I had a funny Senior's moment here. I live in a small town and I was supposed to be at our local medical clinic shortly after 9 AM. So I'm ready to go with the Car keys in my hand but I can't find the House keys anywhere. In the end I had to leave the Back-door open and get over to the clinic. Later after I returned home of course I found the keys in another pair of Jeans, what a dummy ! I'm lucky that I don't live in a big city where you can't leave any doors open lol.

In tennis you have tournaments for veterans. The fact is that with ages.. you cant keep step with young army...I think rule e.g. 55< goes in veteran category would be ok.

It's strange how far from the real world some people are. At 55 I entered the most challenging and rewarding part of my career, at 60 I was made redundant, since then I have built a career in crisis management and quality assurance. I retired this year aged 74, and I am busier than ever.
Illness is a function of how the body works, not how old it is.

This is intresting i am doing community service as a school requirement and i go to the nursing home and play chess with the elderly

I used to tell that joke all the time, especially to my dad before his Alzheimer's became as severe as it is now. Which has forced me to alter the joke....
What's the good thing about Alzheimer's? You get to meet new people every FIVE MINUTES!
Thanks for all of the recent posts. In my own case my memory has been a bit inconsistent since I was quite young. For example when I was 15 I got my first pair of glasses. Well since then I have forever been misplacing them. Same thing with keys. A couple of years ago I got a cell-phone. I've had to use my land-line to call the cell-phone so the ringing would guide me in the right direction lol. My long-term memory has been quite good but the short-term has been a bit of fun.
Champ_weller Thanks for your post. I think it is terrific that you are doing some community service work with older folks. And also I hope that some of the older folks manage to beat you OTB lol.

Not exactly funny, Its a dramatic performances if you google
youtube f. ornstein and you can watch it.

oh dont worry i have had my share of losses they sometimes know their stuff lol but i am not a strong player either

"like a patient etherised upon a table..." I swear, that one always slays me! (even if he spelled "etherized" wrong).
Thanks for the recent posts. In the Dec.2011 issue of Chess Life one can find a book review that may be of interest to some true Oldtimers. The book covers the 1927 New York Chess tournament and was written by Alexander Alekhine in the German language but has now at long last been translated into English. A number of well-known players took part in this tournament besides Alekhine including Jose Capablanca.
Just received the April 2012 issue of " Chess Life " and learned that GM Pal Benko has been writing Columns for that magazine going back 45 years ( indeed 7 pages are devoted to saluting GM Benko ). Pal Benko is not a Spring chicken by any means and it is very nice to see him carrying on with his Column.
