The Ian & Sylvia album I used to have:

Oh Wow ! That was an early LP record to be sure. Later they went on to have a nice Variety TV show here in Canada, it was a good program.

I recently learned a new term from the Chess World: Amaurosis Scacchistica ( aka Chess Blindness ). I do happen to wear glasses and as soon as I get a new stronger pair I will see the board better and my Game will then improve  lol.

Suuuuure it will! Wink

I remember who Shirley Hemphill was.

Me, too!  I've always worked on remembering the Important things ---

1) the kinds of things one is frequently asked about

2) things that may be vital to survival during a life-threatening crisis

3)  Shirley Hemphill

I'll never forget that time I said:  "Shirley, you've Got to be pretty upset about your sitcom being cancelled!" and She said:  "Of course I am --- and (OK, all together now---) --- don't call me 'Shirley!' "

And how about Dee?...

Thanks for the new posts.

Javan64: You don't seem to be convinced by my sure-fire cure for Amaurosis Scacchistica  lol. Also I seem to have a touch of the Wandering Mind Syndrome. When my mind does return to the game at these times I will often make a quick move and then create a bit of a blunder. Oh well such is life.

Dee (photo above) is Danielle Spencer -- but I had to Google that, so quit asking hard questions. Yell

My point is this:  for us Oldtimers, trivia is Fun unless it's too Hard. (!) Some questions just remind us our brains aren't what they used to be. And that is why I don't play chess with people who have ratings over 1600.  Who needs that kind of downer? Smile

Thanks for the recent posts.

Yes trivia can be fun. Since I am a History buff and a fan of anything to do with the Titanic as well let's try another trivia question. What were the names of the Sister-ships of the Titanic ? ( there were 2 of them ).

Javan64

The Titanic's  sister ships were the Olympic and the Britannic.  Hooray for Wikipedia!  Sometimes it's even correct!

cabadenwurt

Thanks for the post Javan64, quite correct of course. Now if you were on Let's Make A Deal with Monty Hall he would say you can have the prize behind door #1 or door #2 or door #3. However we are just on the internet here so we have no prizes ( but let's ask the TV networks to set up a new version of Let's Make A Deal ).

AndyClifton

I thought it was the Pinta and the Santa Maria.

motherinlaw

Correct Answer:  The Titanic, the Pinta, and the Millenneium Falcon

(geez, don't you guys know Anything?)

Thanks for the recent posts.

Motherinlaw I like your answer the best. If they ever set up a prize pool here in these forums you will be in line to get a new micro-wave oven  lol.

Javan64

I once saw a teeshirt which had the caption "What The Hell Is An Aluminum Falcon?"  Funny stuff.

cabadenwurt

That is a cute joke Javan64, thanks for the post.

When I connect to the internet my Home Page is Yahoo which gives me a lot of headline news. One item that I saw there the other day is something that we have covered here before but we are going to cover it again ( in this case I gather that a study was done that confirms the earlier theory ). A study does indeed confirm that learning to play Music and learning to play new pieces of Music are good exercise for the Brain. Learning a new language has also been thought to be beneficial as well. So anyway let's get out there and play some Music and also speak some Swahili ( & play some chess too ). Wink

" The Wandering Mind Syndrome "

Yes it happened again, mind wandering off in the middle of a Game.Yell

I had a nice game going earlier and messed it up because my mind wandered off and of course then a blunder occured, good thing that I'm not betting any money on these games. Laughing

However, excessive belief in studies leads to brain atrophy (and death).

That's probably not true, but I'm not taking any chances.
