Chess for Oldtimers --- Good Idea !

I have a 76 years young student from Italy who comes to me every year for 3-4 week in the summer to study chess and enjoy Budapest. Do you study with a chess coach?

That must be very gratifying for him, Mr. Turzo.  Do you take him to the Széchenyi Thermal Baths?  Looks like a wonderful place to relax and play chess.

In the lower picture (above), the older gentleman is actually looking at the chess board.  That man really must love chess!

I agree, motherinlaw Sandra, that's an attractive photo of Susan Polgar, Women's World Chess Champion from 1996 to 1999.  She now resides in suburban St. Louis, Missouri with her husband and two sons.

Here's another photo of her at the Széchenyi Thermal Baths when she was only 16.

Susan has two sisters, Sophia and Judit.  Judit became the best of the three players with a rating of 2735 (No. 8 player and No. 1 woman in the July 2005 FIDE World Rankings).  This is elite grandmaster level.  She still resides in Hungary.

Like we've never heard of Judit Polgar...?

Some here haven't; don't be a putz.  By the way, that was Wonderful John Acton and that's Christopher Walken.

Thanks for the cute picture of Baby Rose Marie.

Now we return control back over to you so you can reach from the inner mind to – The Outer Limits.

Oh yeah, I always get that title wrong.  But he was billed as Ronnie back then (ya putz).

And anybody old enough to be contributing to this thread knows who Judit is (unless of course--like kaynight--he's too old to even remember her anymore).

That was for motherinlaw's sake and no one else's, but you had to be a wiseacre about it.

By the way, HueyWilliams, post a photo of the first lady of television, a woman who wrote the scripts for her own situation comedy in which she starred, initially on radio and then TV.  She came before the other "first lady," Lucille Ball, and was an influence on Lucy.  She is all but forgotten now.

My very best guess is:

Moms Mabley. Center square to block!

Okay, maybe not, but where else are you gonna get a mention of Moms?

Good point, Bells_in_the_Night.  I liked Moms Mabley, The Honeymooners and The Goldbergs.  I wasn't born when The Goldbergs had its initial broadcast, but some have been preserved and released on DVD.  I am old enough to remember a Christmas scene from the The Honeymooers during its initial run; I was 3.  Ah, those were the days.

Hmmm. First TV memory is interesting. Not sure if I'd considered it before.

Thank You Everyone for all of the posts and photos ( & trivia  lol ).

That's really rather sad for a first memory, HueyWilliams.  I was 10 at the time and still remember where I was when I heard the news.  I remember it all on live TV from Oswald to Ruby to Jacqueline in that somber black dress to John John's salute.  It was devastating for the country.

Name that couple:

Hi motherinlaw,

It looks like Jim Backus and Fanny Brice, though I'm not completely certain it's the funny girl.

Best,
Bob

fightingbob

On second thought, it's probably not Brice; the age isn't right.  No other guesses.

I've heard of I Married Joan, but I didn't know Backus was in the series, and I don't know Joan Davis.  I learned something.  Here's the Wikipedia entry on the series.
