Chess for Princesses

I came across a curious book called "The Court-Gamester," written by Richard Seymour, Esq. in 1722.  The book, "written for the use of the young Princesses," gives instructions for a variety of games, namely Ombre, Piquet and Chess, suitable for nobility.

The chess section comes toward the end of thebook and is quite rudimentary, decribing the pieces, the board, the moves and some rules of play.

I think the esteemed Mr. Seymour's comments on the game are quite amusing.

Seymour had lots of curious comments throughout the book.
